The click of Helen's heels echoed faintly as she walked slowly through the hallway. A book was hugged to her chest with a few placemarkers sticking out. His chair moved rather quietly because of its design, so he felt the need to announce his presence behind her, seeing as how she was lost in thought.
"Planning for a long evening, I see."

"Charles! You nearly scared me to death. I thought everyone was surely off to bed by now." She placed her pen down and folded her hands in front of her. "Oh, this? Just an old project I'm picking back up on." She eyed him. "But you knew that already, didn't you?"

Her shrewd assertion withdrew a slight chuckle from him as well. "I'm always interested in the progress of this particular old project, as you'll recall."

And more than that, Helen enjoyed his company. With the chaos of the school year afoot, there never seemed to be enough hours in the day to just sit and enjoy the company of an old friend.
