I've finally figured out why I like Sherlock so much -- it's the exact same reason why I like Hetalia. It's not that I'm invested in the actual canon so much, but that the fandom actively acknowledges the flaws of the fanon whilst going above and beyond canon itself.

Or maybe I'm just biased.

I've almost always preferred fandom to canon.

I think the whole homosexuality thing was just pandering to the fangirls. If it was meant to be as politically correct as possible, then they've failed -- a lot of people have pointed out the race-fail and gender-fail.
