Wow ... so I just finished the remake. And immediately refilled my wine, sent my best friend a text that consisted of approximately 3 screens of swearing, and refilled my wine again. It's a good thing I went shopping today. I have thoughts. I just don't know what those thoughts are quite yet. I'm not unhappy. That was 40 hours of amazing, beautiful fun, but the cranky old lady who doesn't like new things or change did come out.
I think I'll end up viewing it like I do Howl's Moving Castle. The book is my favourite book. I love it more than anything, and I was so excited when Ghibli made an adaptation. But when I watched it, it wasn't Howl's Moving Castle. It was related, but so far removed that it was telling its own story. And I love that story, so it's okay. They're just two different things. I'm glad the old graphics don't bother me.
In a perfect world, however, money wouldn't be an issue and we could have a 150 or so hours long remake of the entire game that adds that level of world-building and character development while not having to be split into parts that are each a complete story. If I were a billionaire, I'd totally fund it. With the caveat that the menu system be not absolute shit. That's actually my biggest complaint with the game.
