Greeting from Japan

Apologies for the terribly long absence. I'm in the process of moving to Japan, and it's been a little bit crazy. We don't exactly have proper internet, but I magicked a phone contract somehow and have a proper phone for not a million dollars. So it has a bit of internet, I'm just still figuring out how to tether with it. Then maybe I can get back ( Read more... )

It wasn't exactly a sudden thing, but I also didn't really tell a whole lot of people. I'm going back to Canada in mid July, then I'll move over properly in October.

Glad that you are back and hope everything is well. No WiFi in Japan?
Most cell phone contracts also have a data plan. You can get from 50 Mega Bytes to unlimited mega bytes per month depending on your plan. Usually is from 300 to 500 Mega Bytes. My own plan has 500. Quite handy when I am in transit.

Yep, no WiFi. Or house is quite old and the landlord is dead set against installing an internet connection. We don't even have a phone line :P But my phone is working well. I get 5 gigs of data a month, so now it's just keeping track of how much things use. And there's always Starbucks for when I need to install apps and updates!

5 gigs is actually quite a decent amount of data. Sucks that they won't let you install a connection.

That's what I thought too! My plan in Canada has 500 mb, which I came close to using all of once in about 5 years. But when it's your sole source of internet, suddenly it's not so much. I had to tether my computer this morning to send some documents for my visa application; it was very scary watching my usage go up and up!
