they're already $500 cheaper than they were when i got mine in june.

maybe you should get a drebel, canon seemingly has a strangle hold on nikon. you can upgrade to better cameras and maybe canon will even make a newer full frame digital. they are even ahead of nikon in sensor technology, they have been working with their own cmos for a long time where as nikon is now beginning to buy cmos for their top of the line camera. although I do prefer ccd noise to cmos, and I do prefer what little glass nikon has to what canon has. there aren't even any decent semi-cheap film nikons. if I had to choose a new camera now, It'd be extremely hard.

ive handled nikon digital, an old model the d1x and i loved it, every picture i took was amazing.
