Chapter 24
Misaki has passed Marukawa's exams so he's very happy, but Usagi tramples on his mood by telling him that he has to pass another 3 interviews in order to be formally accepted. Misaki is also worried that if he doesn't pass the next few tests, he'd be a jobless university graduate. Usagi then offers to help with a little practice for the interview to prepare Misaki.
Usagi begins by asking Misaki's motive is for joining their company. Misaki answers that he has loved manga since young, especially Ijuuin-sensei's [The Kan]. Then Usagi continues by asking that if he really is able to enter the company, what would Misaki like to do. Misaki answers that he wants to be able to work on impressionable works like [The Kan]. Usagi then continues by saying, "If you have any other books that you like, please tell me." Misaki (without so much of a thought) answers that, "If it's anything by Ijuuin-sensei, then I like it!"
Obviously, Usagi is annoyed and jealous, and picks up his own series of BL and asks Misaki of what he thinks about those books. Misaki cringes and answers that no matter what kind of book it is, as long as there are readers for it, it must be a wonderful book. (Not too sure about this part, sorry!) Usagi is persistent and asks Misaki that, "If you are asked to produce such works, will you still do it?" To which, Misaki answers albeit hesitantly that if he really were in that position, he would still do it.
Usagi goes out of hand by asking, "You may even become a model for this [sort of work]. If so, will you be prepared to do it?" Misaki answers, "I don't think I will end up in that situation....but I'll work hard..."
Usagi deadpans by asking if Misaki will do it, and Misaki then screams, "LIKE HELL I'D DO IT!"
Then Usagi calmly comments that if Misaki continued answering that way, and talking about The Kan all the time, there's no way he'd pass the interview. Usagi says that he can't just get into the editorial department, because the one to decide will be the company. Usagi continues to say that if Misaki ends up disliking being assigned to some other department other than the editorial department, then the company will not accept such a person.
Which then~ Usagi offers the "One Question, One Kiss" deal to Misaki, and says that it is an equal exchange (FMA's famous line: touka koukan). Misaki of course, struggles, even though Usagi argues that it is better to relieve off the nervousness before the real thing [through Usagi's ways]. Misaki then runs off for his part-time job because he's going to be late. Before that, he tells Usagi to not touch him until the whole interview is over.
While at the office, Misaki has just realized that instead of asking Usagi all those, he could just ask the people working at the editorial all about the interviews. Then, (this part I'm not 100% sure, but...) he goes off to print some paperwork as instructed and suddenly gets worried if people will say that he got in through connections, referring to Usagi (and I think the editorial department too).
He returns with the printed copies and asks if he can take a break from his part-time job even before knowing the results of his interview. Then he meets the editorial head, who also is also the main supervisor of Ijuuin-sensei. Misaki wonders if he can take a break for the rest of the month since there's only 3 weeks before the final interview, and he wants a good rest. The head of editorial asks what he likes to do, and Misaki earnestly answers he'd like to get into the editorial department and work on works that are like [The Kan]. (Somehow the head of editorial looked unhappy, which Misaki noticed, but well...)
Misaki is then asked to deliver some paperwork to the 2nd floor to the publishing (?) department. While on the way, he contemplates on Usagi's words earlier on, that it doesn't mean that everyone who enters the company will always be able to do what they want.
He successfully delivers the paperwork, and in return is dumped some stuffs, like [The Kan]'s new cover and is asked to bring it back to the editorial department. He then wonders what the publishing department does exactly, and uses the opportunity to ask Aikawa when he bumps into her at the lift. Apparently, they deal with comics and manufacturing of paperback books. In fact, the whole company is concerned with publishing and sales department. She also goes on to say that, "Even though the editorial department gets the manuscript, the other departments are also involved in completing the final product." This made Misaki seriously consider his job once again, and he understands Usagi's intentions earlier on. He questions himself if he wants to become a part of the editorial department, or if he just wants to publish books.
That's that, and he leaves. Toudou calls and meets with Misaki. It seems that Toudou also has passed the first test, and they both promise to work hard together to pass the next 3 rounds. They then chat, and Toudou mentions that he has a girlfriend, which Misaki then gets tensed up for. Toudou asks if Misaki has one, but Misaki answers ambiguously, "If you say I have, I do have. If you say I don't have, I don't have."
To which Toudou asks, "...Are you a male virgin?" to which Misaki says that he is no longer a virgin.
Of course, he goes home, thinking about him still being a virgin (I think in this case, being the 'seme'). He wonders if Usagi has ever dated a girl before, and asks him about after Usagi puts the phone down. (Caller was Takahiro, but that's not important.) Usagi has dated a girl before but broke up really quickly, and tells Misaki not to worry because he takes responsibility. Misaki then continues to ask how many girlfriends Usagi has had, but Usagi responds by asking if Misaki is jealous. Misaki gets nervous, denies and Usagi tells Misaki not to worry since "I have Misaki now."
So Misaki gets dragged off to bed with Usagi, and Misaki warns Usagi not to "do anything weird". Usagi doesn't, and now Misaki wonders why, and he thinks that he is getting unusually nervous. Then, he asks if Usagi is still awake, and tells Usagi that he will be stopping his part-time for awhile. The reason is because he doesn't want people to think that it's because of his connection with Usagi that he's going to work at the company. In addition, he also replies Usagi that he wants to work at the company because he really wants to produce books, not just because of [The Kan]. But because Usagi didn't really respond (think it's because he just wanted to hug Misaki), Misaki told Usagi that if the way he answered failed then he should at least be told about this.
But really, all Misaki wants is some confirmation, some encouragement to feel more spirited about this 'getting a job at Marukawa'. He feels he has no confidence and thinks he will fail, but Usagi then consoles Misaki, saying, "Don't make me repeat myself anymore. Misaki will be fine."
By those words, Misaki has a strong urge to hug Usagi, but him being Misaki, all he does is move Suzuki-san over to his own spot, and lie back-to-back with Usagi. Usagi blames Misaki who "lured" him...
Then Usagi apologizes for being unable to hold himself back for any longer (because of Misaki's words earlier on to not "touch" him, which is why Usagi didn't do anything). Usagi says (very passionately) that just having Misaki by his side stirs up his desires.
*More sex~!* But Usagi does say, "You're too tight. Loosen up a little." to which Misaki responds by replying that it's impossible.
*After sex!* Usagi asks Misaki if there's anything else he'd like to ask, but it seems like Misaki fell asleep holding onto Usagi's sleeves.
Misaki's final thoughts are, "Just like this...Because Usagi-san talked to me...Because Usagi-san touched me...Because Usagi-san is always by my side..." (I think he's referring to his confidence that is boosted up because of Usagi.)
So it's three days later, and finally he's going to do his interview. Usagi gives him a protection charm that I think, says to allow the holder to achieve success in a job. Misaki is so touched that Usagi went all the way to get a protection charm just for him. Yet his hopes were dashed when Aikawa came in praising the installment of Usagi's new BL. This time, it's about a part 'Suzuki Misaki' who failed to get a job. She reads the line where 'Akihiko' says to 'Suzuki Misaki', "You're an idiot. I am more important than finding employment, right?"
Of course, Misaki understands the meaning of that, and scolds "YOU BASTAAAARD!" at the final panel. The last box says, "For now, the nervousness of Takahashi Misaki (21) has left completely the very day of the first interview in the morning."

Pg 1: "Niichan, I'm in the middle of a miraculous operation." He introduces himself to the interviewers. He, apparently by 'miracle', passed all 3 previous tests, and now on his last one. However, the person he had not expected to see was Isaka, who acknowledges Misaki as "chibi-tan". Then Misaki just remembered that Isaka is, after all, someone important in Marukawa, so it's no surprise he'd be there. Misaki has a bad feeling of his situation.
One of the interviewers asked if Isaka knew Misaki. Without much of a thought, Isaka happily answers that Misaki is currently the one who lives with Usagi. The boy is worried and thinks, "Why is he suddenly talking about this?! Wouldn't that complicate the impression of me?"
Interview begins, asking Misaki's motive for joining. He tells himself that he has rehearsed so many times so all he has to do is keep calm. All is well, until Isaka asks, "These are books that our company publishes too. What do you think of this genre of books?" Misaki is shocked that they would ask about the BL books. He answers hesitantly, "I'm not very familiar with this genre of works, but as long as there are readers who read this genre, I think it is wonderful." Isaka replies, "Eh~ What's with that perfect answer?" So, Isaka continues with the final question, "If you were able to enter the company, there will definitely be people saying you got in through connections with Usami Akihiko. When that time comes, what'll you do?"
Misaki stutters. His mind is blank, but he answers on page 5, 2nd panel, saying, "It's true I'm close to Usami-san. What I'm saying is, it's true that it's not possible to rule out our connection during work. I'm not trying to become well-known through my connection with him." 3rd panel: "I'll work very hard and become useful for the company. But currently I am unable to be on the same level as him in terms of abilities and experiences. Which is why when I enter your company, I'll learn many things...I can't help but want to become a person who will be recognized by Usami-san, not someone who can't work."
Following page, "When that is realized, none can say I got in with connections, so I'll feel more at ease." By now, he "can't go on anymore." Isaka asks another, "For that to realize, how do you think you should be used by our company?"
The interview finishes and he goes home. Usagi greets him and asks him about it. He's depressed, and walks away saying that he'll make dinner after resting 30 minutes, despite Usagi's suggestion to smex..
Pg 7: Misaki, in his room, still depressed but decided that he has to look for a next company to get a job. He blames himself that he should have prepared better. However, the smell of something burning drifted into the room. Thinking it's a fire, he shouts at Usagi, "Usagi-san! This is bad! There's a smell of something burning!" Which he sees that Usagi was just screwing with food again. He asks what the heck Usagi is experimenting on, and Usagi answers, "I want to make Tomato Chicken Stew but...(small text) it seems odd..."
Misaki questions why it "looks like lava" then snatches the chopsticks away saying he'll make it better, asking why Usagi even tried to cook. Usagi says on pg 8, "Because if Misaki eats it, he'll feel better." Misaki blushes and tells Usagi that he's fine and that he is just tired. Again, comforting words leave Usagi's mouth, "You've worked hard with all your might, so just prepare yourself and accept it."
In Misaki's mind, he's happy that Usagi's worried, but it's not good either. They dig in on pg 9 with Usagi commenting that it turned out good. Misaki replied that that he has done extensive work to make it edible.
The phone rings, and next page shows Takahiro's kid, Mahiro. Usagi is extremely irate because he hates kids, but puts up with it because it's Takahiro's kid. Apparently, the parents caught influenza, and they couldn't send their kid to Kyushu, the wife's parent's home. Neither could they leave him in their friends' care, so they asked Misaki to.
The kid calls Misaki, "Mitaki!" Mahiro points to Usagi and Misaki asks, "You've met him a few times before right? Say his name...?" The kid replies, "Unagi." (LOL) which depressed Usagi. Then he says that it's bedtime for children, and read to the kid. He suggests the following book titles: World's Scariest Stories, Noises of a Spirit, When I Realized It, It Was Behind Me, which Misaki denies.
Time to change Mahiro's diapers! But Misaki doesn't know how, and contemplates on asking his bro, but doesn't want to disturb them. He asks Usagi to check the net but Usagi refuses to. Misaki decides to just bathe instead! He panics about how many Celsius the bath should be for infants and if just normal shampoo works. All the while, Usagi calls for his attention but is ignored. Clearly, Usagi is annoyed. When all is done, Misaki comments that it can't be helped that he has to take care of Mahiro, but he really should be "searching for the next company" instead.
Pg 12: Mahiro falls asleep quickly and he wants to change the kid's clothes, but then Usagi says it's "adult's time". Misaki is angry and pushes Usagi away. Usagi asks if Misaki is still affected by the interview, which he denies. Usagi goes on to say that there's no point harping on it. Misaki continues to deny that it's not about the interview that he's just thinking of the next step. Usagi then continues, "In the first place, the recruiting of the company has ended already," which Misaki shouts, "I KNOW THAT ALREADY."
Misaki goes on: "Which is why I shouldn't be doing this now! Don't preach to me when you don't even understand me! I'm stupid unlike Usagi-san who is able to do anything easily!" Misaki then realizes that he has accidentally said all those that he hadn't meant to say again. This time Mahiro wakes up and Misaki takes Mahiro upstairs.
Pg 15: Misaki in his room: "I was completely into my outburst. Usagi-san made sound arguments, but because I was irritated I carelessly blurted out those things...But the source of my irritation is myself..." He decides to apologize to Usagi.
Pg 16: He says sorry, which Usagi wonders why. He explains that he got irritated because of the job issue and Mahiro. "I know that Usagi-san is concerned about me and has always cheered me on. So I'm sorry for saying those hurtful things." On the second last panel (left page), he says, "But you see, I still have to say this! He's still your best friend's son, so help take care of Mahiro!"
Page 17: Usagi also has a complaint: "You pay too much attention to Mahiro." Misaki argues that Mahiro is still an infant, but Usagi replies, "Finally your interviews have ended and I wanted to smex with you, why should we be hindered by that kid?" So, all serious, Usagi says, "All Misaki has to do is pay attention to me." Which then Misaki reaches the conclusion, "Don't tell me...he's jealous...of a kid?!" Final panel: "What a narrow-minded guy...!"
Page 18: Usagi says that he has never thought of himself as someone who can do everything. He says to Misaki, "Without you around, I can't do anything." Misaki agrees and says it's true Usagi's ability to live is zero, but it's also true that he has been living fine by himself before Misaki came. Usagi says that this isn't so ever since he's met Misaki. Misaki's thoughts: "What should I do? Through those fingertips, Usagi-san's body temperature is transmitted through my whole being..."
SMEX. Usagi playfully asks, "Did you do it yourself in this month?" Usagi decides by himself that from now Misaki shall sleep in his bed to replenish his lack of Misaki. Misaki came and Usagi mocked, "As usual, you come early." which Misaki replied, "Shaddup! I'm still young!"
And Usagi pauses (pg 21), saying, "Oh yes, you said you're an idiot earlier, which is true because your intellect is questionable, looks are average and can't get the gist of anything." (Misaki yells, "Want to fight?!") But Usagi continues, "Which is why I love that part of you."
Misaki's thoughts (during love-making): "It's been about a month since I felt Usagi-san's skin. I've always been thinking it strange, that Usagi-san's hands are usually cold, but why is it so warm now? It's only skin on top of skin, yet why is it that Usagi-san's feelings are transmitted so clearly to me?"
3 days later is Takahiro is taking Mahiro back. Usagi goes downstairs and Mahiro calls him "Unagi!" again, which he ignores. Then he sees a teary Misaki sitting by the genkan (entrance where shoes are put). Seeing the package from Marukawa Shoten, he assumes Misaki didn't pass. However, Misaki did, which made him happy. Coincidentally, Takahiro has just arrived and is extremely elated at hearing Misaki being accepted into Marukawa.
Misaki later goes to a bookstore (plus, Usagi wants to treat him to a high-class restaurant, which he is nervous for) and bumps into Ijuuin. Ijuuin has heard of his acceptance and congratulates him. He tells Misaki to wait for him in 15 mins time at the entrance of the bookstore. Misaki is a little worried that he's going to meet Usagi in 30 mins, but doesn't think too much of it.
Turns out that Ijuuin went to buy a flower for Misaki. At this, Misaki becomes flustered and thanks Ijuuin, and Usagi pops by. Being Usagi a perfect, beautiful bouquet of roses is produced. Two adults have an intense greeting moment while Misaki thinks, "Could this...be...really bad...?"
In the final box: Somehow, the premonition of a storm brewing? *One difficulty after another...?!*
