we needed you here.

John Chew told Dallas Johnson to make an announcement that Nigel had won a la Mary's two years ago, while Kenji vs. Rafi and Jesse vs. Nigel and Chris vs. Will were still in progress. I ran over to the director's table and asked John who said it, and John gave me the snidest smirk ever. I am extremely furious that happened, and told Chris afterwards. He obviously wasn't very happy, but the nerve...

isn't it tradition to announce the winner once it happens? i seem to recall joel sherman's victory announced in 2002 san diego when other games were still in progress?

if so, its a stupid tradition. other than the bldg. being on fire, there isnt any reason for those folks to say ANYTHING during a game.

I was informed after the 2010 incident, which pretty clearly violates all noise rules, and cost me an extremely important endgame, that it would NEVER happen again.

This. If it's worth the recognition (like when gijoel666 put up his 805 game), I'm all for stopping clocks and taking a moment.

If I win NSC, you'll probably hear me yell something and disrupt games.

the point is this: the rules are there to prevent noise during the games, and the people who ENFORCE the rules are WILLINGLY breaking them. how can they be so tone deaf? seriously, its just a no brainer that you shouldnt do something like that.

So if I have 15 seconds left against Sam Rosin, I'm allowed to stop my clock to wait for the announcement and at the same time continue to think about the close endgame during the pause? That seems unfair.

I just want to chime in on John Williams needing to shut up. I was stunned that he was the "official spokesman" for an event and an organization that Hasbro disowned.

well first of all, there were so many factual errors in the first article on AP that is was laughable. secondly, he needs to NEVER be asked anything about a NASPA tournament again. thirdly, Whitney asked me if there was a media relations person for NASPA and i didnt know what to tell her. we need one of those people, preferrably someone with experience and not just a volunteer.

I think Robin Pollock Daniel handles media relations for NASPA in some capacity, but I'm not sure.
