My computer's name is Wilson. He's served me very well over the past few years. Yeoman's work, really. I'm not a gentle computer user, but he's held up well. I'll credit a solid build, easy access, and not being quite a intent a power user as I was in college. Heinlein, my college PC... oi. That poor machine.

I'm so amused that you name your computers. Our's is just called Wright's Office or something. (Though we once had one named George, as a friend put in the oporating system and answered the question about the name of the computer with George. Not the same as naming it yourself, though.)

No. Perhaps it is having been so heavily influenced by science fiction, but my computers definitely have personality. Maxwell would be pleased, or at least unsurprised. I'd try to name them after the apparent personalities, but they're usually christened by the time I can tell how they're going to be. I've named all of my computers, and most of the ones I've built, after science fiction authors.

My wife's college computer was a dual-boot for Linux and Windows because she was at the time dating another computer geek and was interested in learning Linux without losing the productivity of the more popular OS. So she named hers as well, but twice, so that the two sides were separate. Linux was Mary. Windows was Magdalene.
