Override codes are the key to modifying your LJ's look. There are a lot of override codes, so they'd take some time to explain. Here's god starting point for learning overrides in the Livejournal FAQs section:

hey thanks! but i'm confused because that override section isnt showing up in "modify journal." i think that's because i'm using "new system?" because when i changed it back to "old system" it was there. how can i keep "new system" and still use overrides??

hey okay actually i changed it back to old system and put in this override: http://www.livejournal.com/talkread.bml?journal=howto&itemid=15156 but it still didn't do anything. i don't understand why it's not showing up??
