I'm seriously considering getting my lip pierced this summer. Although I'm a little aprehensive about it going manky before the wedding. I'm also not sure how school would react. It would only be a little stud after all, but you never know... how long after getting it done can you put in a retainer ( Read more... )

I'd love to get one myself...but Sir Kenneth Morrisons Purveyor of Foods won't allow me.

Yeah, I figured I'd get it done at the start of the 6 weeks holiday... hopefully it will be healed enough to put in a retainer by the start of the new term.

both piercings in my lip barely required any healing time whatsoever. i think i could just be lucky, though. but neither swelled up or lymphed loads or anything, i just got pierced and carried on like normal.

but i could just be a bit of an case with regards to that.

I have top and bottom lip done and both healed roughly the same - quite a bit of swelling on the first couple of days, then going down (top lip worse than bottom for swelling, but drinking lots of water helps with that anyway), I think all the swelling was gone within a week, and then it seemed healed in about 2 weeks. My general rule of thumb is always wait 2 weeks after you think somehting is healed before changing it. You can put a retainer in as soon as it's healed. You can also have them done with something quite tiny. If that's not enough a pierer can change the ball on the end to a clear acrylic ball after a couple of weeks if you didn't actually want to take it out to change it.

As for school - I don't think many people at mine noticed when i had my top lip done. I think they thought it was there all along!

Go for it! Oral piercings are the quickest and easiest to heal :)
