Synopsis: [AU] Being a rich child, Donghae got more than he's bargained for when he decided to attend a regular high school.

Previous chapter: Prologue

Donghae is excited. No, probably even more so if some people were to see him as he prepares himself for the big day.

After years of being home-tutored- with the exception of his first year and half of elementary school before his father decided the teachers there were completely incompetent in teaching his son, he’s finally able to attend the rest of his years in a public high school along with his distantly related cousin, Sungmin, who he hasn’t seen for years as well as his best friend, Kyuhyun, who also happens to be his cousin’s lover (all thanks to him, the self-acclaimed matchmaker).

Sure, he might have some troubles once he reach there (because he was home-tutored after all and he isn’t sure about how to respond to others his age), but at least he has those two to rely on.

As he strides around his room and finishes adjusting his tie, Donghae looks down at it for a moment before he heads over to the full body mirror that hung against the door. Contemplating over his appearance, he decides that the tie must go. Pulling and struggling it off his neck, he then proceeds to unbutton the first two of his shirt and finally slings the uniform jacket over. He grins to himself after that.

“Much better.” He nods to himself around the same time he hears the doorbell ring. “Ah. Must be them.” Within a second, he rushes around his room to finish up his preparations and as soon as he finishes, he zooms straight to the front door. “You guys are late!” He shouts the moments he caught sight of Sungmin and Kyuhyun.

“Well, sorry for not waking up at four in the morning just to get ready.” His cousin snorted. Kyuhyun, who’s still focused on his game console, can only nod in agreement.

Donghae shrugs his shoulder. “It’s a habit. Blame all my dad’s tutors.”

“Because that’s the only thing you can say in retaliation. Just like all those other times.” The youngest gives an off-handed comment.

“Hey! I can make a plausible argument when I want to!”

“A fraction of the time.”

“Why, you-“

“We’re going to be late, just so you know.” Sungmin butted in with a raised eyebrow.

Donghae lets out a gasp. “We are? Let’s go then! Hey, did you bring your chauffeur?”

His cousin shakes his head. “We’re walking there. It’s not that far.”

Eying the other critically for a long moment, the brunette asked slowly, “…You sure?”

“You know, if you want to hitch a ride that bad, hyung, go take your car. We’re leaving.” And with that, he strides away from the house and dragging Kyuhyun away by the wrist.

Struck with disbelief, Donghae extends his arm with a shout, “Hey! I-I was only kidding! Wait for me!” He shuts the door behind him and immediately rushes off to catch up with them.

He doesn’t even realize he forgot one of the essentials for daily school life: money.

“…There’s more people here than I thought.” Donghae can’t help but to comment as he eyes the school ground from the gate entrance.

“Surprisingly, this is the third largest school in Korea, despite being one of the richest in the country.” Sungmin speaks up from his right before leaning a little closer as his voice drops. “Hate to say this but there’s more snobbish students here than good so I suggest you stay alert. Then again, maybe I should just introduce you to the gang. They’ve been wanting to meet you for some time now.”

“Really?” The brunette raised one eyebrow, intrigued by the revelation. “You told them about me or something?”

After a second, Sungmin gives a short nod. “That and Heechul-hyung decides to look you up to see who you are.”

“Heechul?”

The other merely waves a hand, shaking his head. “You’ll meet him eventually.”

“He’s the principal’s stepson.” Kyuhyun decides to speak up. “No one dares to tease him about that cause he’s prissy and can be a mean bitch.”

“Kyu! You’re giving Hae a bad vibe about hyung!” Sungmin reprimanded with a frown, to which his boyfriend shrugs and resumes his game.

“I’m only saying the truth…just to give Donghae a warning.”

“Hyung’s not that bad.” Sungmin then turns to his cousin, looking slightly apologetic. “Don’t mind him. He just has a couple of…complaints, when it comes to Heechul-hyung.”

“Oh…it doesn’t matter. Haven’t met the guy yet so I don’t have a reason to get scared of him.” Donghae replies, rubbing the back of his neck.

His cousin nods in understanding. “That’s good.” He turns to the school, watching the students head off to their respective rooms. “I guess we’d better get going. Come on, I’ll direct you to the office to get your schedule.”

“Sounds good.”

To be continued.
