Who needs Romeo and Juliet when you have Jack and Ianto? 2/?
Warnings/Spoilers: None really
Rating: PG
Pairing: Jack/Ianto (who else?)
Summary: Jack comes back
Disclaimer: Sadly, I do not own Jack, or Ianto. Or Jack's coat, which I would love to have.
Life carried on as normal at Torchwood, or at least as normal as life ever was. Weevils, and another odd alien gas which had become strangely attached to Owen came and went. And still Ianto avoided Jack, leaving the hub with the others even earlier than he ever had for Lisa. He left a room whenever Jack walked in, and only ever spoke to him to give him coffee, or a cursory ‘sir’ or ‘Captain’.
“You really need to talk to him” Gwen said abruptly, as Ianto left the conference room again. Tosh and Owen looked up, and then quickly back down at their reports, though they were clearly listening, waiting for Jack’s reply.
“Who?” asked Jack, his eyebrows down, looking thoroughly surprised at being disturbed.
“Ianto!” Tosh burst out, and blushed bright red, staring back down at the table. Jack looked up and round at the rest of his team. “You all agree about this?” he asked, the authority gone and his voice wavering slightly. Gwen nodded slowly.
“Of course we bloody do!” Owen bellowed. “We’re fed up of you two tip toeing around each other. Apologise, make up and kiss, s***, whatever it is you two were doing before you went and disappeared.” Owen swallowed and gathered up the papers on his part of the table, sweeping them into a pile and heading out of the door, avoiding Jack.
“Right,” Jack gasped. “Thanks for that!” he called to Owen’s retreating back. He spun round seeing Tosh and Gwen following Owen’s example and gathering up their files, leaving him alone again. He walked back over to his desk, Owen’s words ringing in his ears.
Jack and Ianto slept badly that night, each alone in their cold beds, each secretly dreaming of the other. Jack felt cold and alone in the hub, missing the warmth of another body beside him. Ianto barely slept, just lay in his bed, thoughts whirling around his brain.
The following day, they were left alone together in the hub, the others gone into Splott to investigate a series of abducted pets. Jack had stayed back to man the hub, leaving his team alone for the time being, giving them a chance to learn for themselves, and if he was honest with himself he’d been quite impressed with the way they’d coped without him, he though they could handle themselves. Jack hadn’t even known Ianto was there until a warm cup of coffee appeared on the desk in front of him, the back of Ianto’s suit already out of the door. He sighed again, as he had many times since he’d returned, a sigh that ran right through him. He took a sip, Ianto’s coffee magic warming him all the way down to his toes. He settled back in his chair, ready to enjoy the temporary warmth. He was interrupted by a ring from his mobile and he snapped it up.
“Yes? We’ll be right over” he said into the phone and rose, grabbing his coat on the way out of the door. “Ianto, with me” he called, as he raced over to the SUV. God, it was a long time since he’d said that, and it still felt so good. Ianto appeared beside him as he strapped himself in, sitting in the passenger seat, his face blank.
“Where are we going sir?” he asked, secretly glad at the extra time he could spend with Jack. He’d done a bit of thinking, a lot of thinking, and he’d decided he still wasn’t sure how he felt for Jack, but he was glad he was back, for now at least.
“Weevil sighting” Jack explained, glancing across at Ianto, who was concentrating on the SatNav system in his lap. Jack was glad Ianto was with him now, without the others. Maybe they could clear the air, maybe he could finally get Ianto to forgive him.
