Dad visit

I had a couple of hours Friday, all afternoon Saturday and about three hours Sunday with my Dad. He continues about the same -- more awake and verbal some days than others, spends most of his time sitting quietly in a chair watching TV (though I'm not sure how much of it he can actually see or hear ( Read more... )

Best wishes to him and you. He sounds like a man at peace. I keep flashing on a book that was popular in the eighties: Growing Old is not for Sissies. I didn't really get it back then, but now I do.

I remember my grandfather-in-law really husbanded his strength. Anytime people were speaking to him, he'd perk right up, but went back to energy conservation mode if he wasn't directly involved. It made sense, but it was a little odd to get used to.

I'm glad you're able to visit him.

Sounds a lot like my mom's last 3 or 4 years. She slept a lot, and like c's GIF perked up with there were visitors.

Your just being there obviously was exactly what your dad needed.
