A lot of shit has happened since my last update, here's hoping that I can remember it all.
I've officially been unemployed for roughly a week now. This past Sunday would have been my last day, had it not been for a certain incident involving a certain prick assistant manager. I ended up writing a letter that eventually made it's way to the Board of Directors for Marden's concerning this guy and his complete lack of managerial aptitude. But, despite all that, I left on good terms, and the store manager told me that if I was ever in need of a job in the Lewiston/Auburn area, I'd always have one at Marden's. Not that I plan on ever working there again, but that's something encouraging to hear; it's nice to know the last 3.5 years spent working there actually amounted to something.
I have less than a week left until I begin classes at UMF, and I'm admittedly a little nervous, but relieved that I'm finally getting back on track. I managed to get a single dorm room, which I'm pretty happy about. I was not looking forward to living with a total stranger. Now at least I get my own private space, not to mention I don't have to kick a roommate out when I want some quality time with my baby =)
As for a new job, I submitted an online application to MBNA, but I have yet to hear back from them. However, my best option right now looks like a Media Center position Becky told me about. I basically babysit a computer center and help people using Photoshop and a few other programs. Simple enough, and I'm fairly certain there will be plenty of downtime, so I can get paid to bring my laptop and do homework... or play games. Whichever.
My birthday is coming up soon. Going to be 20 years old. Kinda scary.
John and a couple of the guys from work (well, where I used to work) put together a surprise birthday dinner for me at the Ground Round. That was pretty awesome, and if any of you guys happen to read this, I appreciated it very much. It's nice to know I'm liked by the people I worked with.
I had to reformat this laptop... again. It didn't have anything to do with a malfunction or anything; as a matter of fact, this one was my fault. See, when I reformatted this the first time, I used a Windows XP disc to do it, when i should have used the eMachines Recovery DVD they included with the laptop. The end result was my wireless not working... due to a lack of functional drivers. To remedy this problem, and get my wireless connectivity back, I had to run the Restore DVD, which effectively Ghost'ed my hard drive (for those who don't know, Ghost is a program put out Symantec that wipes a hard disk clean of anything and everything), then reinstalled Windows XP along with all the factory preinstalled software that I orginally had when I got the laptop, including the wireless software. So I got my wireless back, but I had to spend half of today and part of yesterday reinstalling all my software that I had lost. Not fun. In this process, I got the new version of AIM called Triton. They've made some nice improvements and alterations to the basic instant messenger formula, though the changes threw me off for a while. Everything is more accesible and even more condensed and efficient than before. All in all, a nice improvement.
I think that's about it. Oh well, I know what I'm getting for my birthday, for those that want to be nosy. I'm getting volume four of Aqua Teen Hunger Force on DVD, the Lord of the Rings Extended Edition Trilogy pack (so awesome), and a gift certificate to Waldenbooks.
Expect another update sometime after the 16th, maybe I'll gripe about having to wake up at 8am every morning for classes.
