When I was little I used to wonder off alot, and I went with people that looked like my mom, it sucked. My parents left me at kiddie college once, but they came back. From His perspective, that might have either been a whole lot of fun, or kinda scary, or a mix. If he was scared and wanted to go to his mom for comfort and she smacked him, he might be less inclined to go to her for comfort next time and she might worry more. Her actions could cause her and her child more problems. Don't think she should have worried so much though in the first place.
