Once, there was a time...
~standing on the edge of love and pain
There was a time when Sungmin would curl up in Kyuhyun’s bed, under his comforter and sheets, inhaling the younger’s scent, and wait for the pain to ebb and for the bruises to begin forming. There was a time when the smell of Kyuhyun’s pillow actually comforted Sungmin, despite the pain, the red marks and the dull red crescents that lined his arm. There was a time when Sungmin would lose himself in the soft mattress and breezy touch of the sheets, falling asleep on his stomach instead of his back because even the soft material created too much friction. There was a time when Sungmin really did cry himself to sleep at night, when he told himself it was only a nightmare, but that time was long gone. Sungmin was too strong for that now; he was too cold. Sungmin changed, with it, his heart. Too late, Kyuhyun.
There was a time when Sungmin had always come back for more, a time when it didn’t matter what happened to him as long as Kyuhyun was happy, as long as Kyuhyun was content. There was a time when Sungmin submitted to the younger’s orders, never demanding anything in return, never even requesting, never even wishing in the crevices of his own mind-he was just that consumed. There was a time when Sungmin didn’t care if he was kicked or thrown against the wall, if he was taken without preparation or torn, if his lips were bruised or his neck bleeding instead of just marked, if his hair was pulled so hard his eyes watered with the pain. There was a time when Sungmin was all Kyuhyun’s, when there was no one else, but that time was long gone. Sungmin was too dead for that now; he was too gone. Sungmin disappeared, with it, his heart. Too bad, Kyuhyun.
There was a time when Sungmin had enough, when he fought back with biting words, but even that wasn’t enough once Kyuhyun had blinked out of his surprise. There was a time when Sungmin stopped lying in Kyuhyun’s bed to fall asleep, when he curled up on the cold bathroom tiles and sniffed himself to sleep, no tears. There was a time when Sungmin waited until Kyuhyun was away for the day before moving quickly, bags opened, drawers banged, closet doors slammed, cabinets pillaged, zippers zipped, and front doors opened, closed, locked. There was a time when Sungmin vanished for a day, when he claimed the silent solitude he had been craving, when he rushed to the emergency room to check on the week old sprained ankle and the maybe-broken wrist, the bruise that never disappeared from his hip bone, and the time his head slammed against the headboard causing his vision to blur on and off. There was a time when Sungmin forgot about how Kyuhyun made him feel, when he forgave unconditionally, but that time was long gone. Sungmin was too anguished for that now; he was too wounded. Sungmin ran, with it, his heart. Goodbye, Kyuhyun.
There was a time when Sungmin got careless, wandering the streets of his and Kyuhyun’s old apartment without a scarf or beanie or sunglasses on. There was a time when hands grabbed him and flung him against the bricks of an old building in the shadow of a dark alley, and Sungmin had yelped and shouted, but no one had been around except for a pair of glaring eyes that sent chills down Sungmin’s spin and feelings of fear through his soul. There was a time when Sungmin had expected something from Kyuhyun, but for once, as he assumed the worst was coming, he was wrong-no more bruises, no more cuts, no more pain. There was a time when Kyuhyun released Sungmin from his hold and buried his face in the crook of the older’s shoulder, when Sungmin felt small salty tears stain his skin. There was a time when Kyuhyun apologized and begged and pleaded with Sungmin to come back, he was missed, Kyuhyun had cried, he was missed. There was a time when Sungmin would have believed him, when he would have returned to him, but that time was long gone. Sungmin was too broken for that now; he was too scarred. Sungmin left, with it, his heart. Sorry, Kyuhyun.

A/N: I hope you like it, omg. I actually was writing a different plot in which Kyuhyun and Sungmin ended up together for your request of self harm/abuse, but that ended up being really long and it's not really sticking to the theme, so I'm making that an angsty oneshot. So yeah, peoples. Expect an angsty kyumin oneshot soon. And then another one, for
rei_ming. and then an update somewhere in the middle of all that.
