It’s been one week since Mason had accepted Trace back into his life, and he couldn’t be happier. The boys regularly found themselves just lying in Mason’s bed, cuddling and talking. Anthony had came over a few times, and Mason was beginning to forgive him as well. Mason opened his eyes and found himself alone in his bed and frowned. He was getting used to waking up next to Trace*. He sat up and rubbed his eyes. Looking around, he spotted a small piece of paper lying on the table. Reaching forward, he snatched and scanned over it.
Mace,
If I’m not back by the time you wake up, I just want you to know that I only went to get us some real food and not the garbage they have here. I should be back soon.
Love you forever,
Trace
P.S. I can take you home this Tuesday!
Mason’s breath caught in his throat when he read the last line. What home did he have to go to? His heart clenched when he thought of his mother, packing his things and storing them in the attic. Removing his picture from family photo albums and even changing the answering machine.
“Hi, you’ve reached the Musso’s. Please leave us a message at the tone and we will get back to you. And if you’re calling to inquire about a “Mason”, you have the wrong number. Thank you and have a nice day.”
Mason couldn’t understand it. His parents had no problem with gay people before. What made him being gay so different?
“Mace, are you awake?”
Mason turned his head toward the door and saw Trace* poking his head in. He walked in holding a McDonalds bag and a rolled-up newspaper. He smiled and walked up to Mason and kissed his cheek. He put the food and the paper down on the table and ran his hand through Mason’s soft hair.
“I was hoping to get back before you got up…”
Mason shut his eyes and sighed. He felt like such a chick sometimes, but he loved it when Trace* played with his hair. Suddenly something wet slid across his cheek and he snapped his eyes open. Trace was licking him.
“Trace*, dude! What are you doing? Ew!”
“I love you.”
Mason smiled at his boyfriend and quickly leaned forward and licked Trace*’s nose.
“I love you too.”
Trace leaned forward and kissed Mason. His finger’s threading through Mason’s brown hair. He pulled back before it could go any farther, and Mason let out the tiniest of whimpers.
“Mace… babe… are you happy for Tuesday?”
“Well, I can’t wait to get out of here, but…”
“But…”
“But I don’t have a home anymore, Trace.”
“Come again?”
“Later, but you know about my parents reaction to me.”
“Oh, baby. You don’t have to go back to them.”
“Uh…what?”
Trace picked up the newspaper and opened it to show Mason a piece circled in red pen.
“Y-you bought a house?”
“With help from dear old Billy.”
“You pulled the dad card on him again, didn’t you?”
“Yush. So, will you move in with me?”
Mason looked up at Trace*. He smiled at the skinny boy.
“Of course I will.”
Mason slid over and Trace climbed into the bed. Cuddling together, the boys grabbed the food sitting on the table, and began eating, which led to feeding each other, which led to a small food fight, finally ending with a heavy make out session.
Blake stood in the doorway, watching the two lovers practically devour each other’s faces. He clenched his hands into fists and turned away from the pair, quietly exiting the room.
“Fucking Mason. First he turns Trace*, who next? Anthony? Me? Fucking queer.”
He walked swiftly down the hall toward the elevators, wanting to get out of there as fast as he could. The only thing crossing his mind was:
Why was I so turned on by that?
