“I love you.”
“You’re okay.”
Dongwoo smiles, angling his head down for a better peek at Junghwan’s face. Junghwan’s got his back to Dongwoo’s chest as they lay across the couch, which is great for cuddling and terrible for seeing the smile that lets him know Junghwan’s barbs and rejections are all in jest.
There it is, lifting his cheekbone, stretching his lips so they look even more wide and kissable than usual. Dongwoo lands a peck on the soft center of his cheek, lifting one knee to bounce Junghwan even tighter against him.
“Ah, you’re so mean to me,” Dongwoo murmurs, a laugh in his voice as lands another kiss. “When will you accept my heart?”
“Aaaach,” Junghwan compains back, face turned away. He closes his fingers tighter where they rest around the backs of Dongwoo’s hands. “Enough,” he mumbles, a chuckle behind his voice as well. “Don’t you get tired of love confessions all the time? Really, it’s constant.”
Dongwoo’s smile falls away from his eyes, chest knotting with uncertainty.
A moment passes; a thousand thoughts and moments replay themselves in Dongwoo’s mind.
“Ah, that was mean, forget it,” Junghwan mumbles, pulling Dongwoo’s arm up his chest.
Inside Dongwoo, there are a lot of feelings and very few words. Finally, he musters:
“It bothers you?”
Junghwan lifts one of Dongwoo’s fingers and drops it. “Don’t you feel awkward about it?” he asks, bringing one of Dongwoo’s hands to his mouth to kiss his knuckle. “I’m sorry. You’re mad.”
“I’m not mad,” Dongwoo responds, because that, at least, has a simple response. He’s not mad. He’s just… something else. Several somethings. A lot of somethings.
Junghwan’s weight on his chest makes it a little harder than usual to breath.
“I hurt you, that was stupid. You can confess your love to me anytime you want.”
“But you don’t like it?”
“You know how I am about… talking. About feelings.”
“You’re talking about feelings now.”
Junghwan laughs. “I know,” he says. “I hate it.”
Dongwoo takes another moment to gather himself, and Junghwan flips himself over, elbowing Dongwoo in the ribs as Dongwoo pulls his hands back to make room. He settles with his cheek to his chest and his nose buried under Dongwoo’s jaw.
Dongwoo can hear the fan and Channie opening a drawer in a bedroom. His arms fall into place around Junghwan’s shoulders, one in his hair. The summer heat lulls them into quiet.
“Ah, you know how I feel, don’t you?” Junghwan mumbles, words muffled by Dongwoo’s own throat. His lips are warm and soft. “Even if I don’t say it?”
“Of course,” Dongwoo whispers, stroking his hair.
“Okay,” Junghwan whispers back. After a moment, he cranes his neck up and kisses Dongwoo’s chin.
Dongwoo melts.
“I’m just so awkward about saying it,” Junghwan murmurs. “I try to say it in other ways, you know?”
“I know.”
“Like my cute side. Only you get to see my cute side.”
Dongwoo laughs, scooping him closer. “Junghwannie, that’s not true at all. You just don’t even notice when you’re being cute.”
Junghwan sits up with a “When do I show other people my cute side?”
“Um, every time you make any kind of facial expression?” Dongwoo laughs, the coldness of the conversation inside him evaporating as the warmth of Junghwan seeps back into him. “You don’t even notice, do you?”
Junghwan looks stricken. “No, I’m not cute! I’m cool, right?”
“Of course baby, you’re the coolest,” Dongwoo laughs, and Junghwan raises a fist as if to smack him. “Hey!” Dongwoo lifts a hand and swats his ass, eyebrows lowering for a moment in a stony expression. “Calm down, brat.”
Junghwan wriggles and whines, grabbing at Dongwoo’s shoulders on impact.
“Oof. Hyung,” he whimpers. “Seriously, when do I act cute?”
“Your normal face is just cute,” Dongwoo laughs, cupping his chin.
“I would never let anyone else touch me like this, I hope you know. For example.”
“Except Jinyoung or Chanshik, for example.”
“Jinyoung doesn’t give me any choice!” Junghwan protests, actually kicking his feet in indignation. “And Channie’s so cute, I let him have whatever he wants because he’s cute.”
His lips are pouted with misery and being pushed into a kissy-face by the smush of his cheeks. Dongwoo leans in and gives them a peck.
When he pulls back, Junghwan’s face is radiating helpless affection.
“See, this whole babyish performance I’m doing,” Junghwan explains. “Just for you.”
“That’s a lie.”
“Right now, it’s just for you.”
Dongwoo pulls him in a little, letting their lips rest together so Junghwan can feel his smile.
“Lee Junghwan… I love you.”
Junghwan, exasperated, flutters his lips in a fart noise and collapses to Dongwoo’s chest.
