I doubt people hate you because of your "straight edge-ness."
And also, don't you feel that the term "straight-edge" has lost it's meaning in modern times. Now it's like a fashion statement. Why can't people just do what's right without sticking a label on it and wanting everyone to know. "Ooh look at me!"
