The camp was quiet.
Tents were pitched every few meters, armored trucks backed in beside them, with white camouflage thrown over the tops in a hap-hazard arrangement of fabric. Only a few soldiers were awake, holding their steaming cups of coffee as close to their bodies as possible as they trekked through knee-deep snow drift. Occasionally the tents would shift with a breeze, and someone would sneeze, but aside from these disturbances the world around the encampment was dead. The entire mountain was dead.
Near the edge of the encampment, voices whispered, muffled by the ice and the thick wool fibers of their tent. Drab, it was a bit older than the other setups, and built for two. Inside, three men shared their bedding equally, stripped to the nude to keep each other warm. The first, a blond, seemed to be the youngest; barely of the age to enter into the armed forces, his eyes spoke of mischief and youth. His body, a thin line of white silk, was all slim muscle and perfection. He lay between two slightly older boys, both redheads, who held facial features very similar to each other. Each sporting facial tattoos and long hair, they embraced the smaller boy with something aside from survival shining in their expressions.
“Reno,” the blond whispered, turning to one of the redheads that had him sandwiched. This boy seemed to the the oldest, with thick lines of black encroaching on his face not terribly unlike sideburns. “We go into battle tomorrow, don't we?” There was an almost imperceptible shake to his voice, despite how his hands clenched beneath the covers in a hope to keep them still.
An invisible wince did not escape the sharp eyes of the other two as the boy, Reno, turned his gaze to another part of the small tent. He didn't have to look far, as the three took up nearly all the space. Arms wound around the waist of the smaller boy, then, and the blond turned to take in the last occupant, whose tattoos- black inverted tear-drops just side the apples of his cheeks- drew attention straight to poison-green eyes that almost seemed to glow in the darkness of the tent. “Axel...” the boy gasped as the older boy's hands began to wander downwards.
“Don't worry about it, Roxas,” Axel replied, eyes flicking to Reno in invitation as he drew a gentle moan from the blond. “It's tomorrow, and what happens will happen whether we like it or now.” Pressing a kiss to the blond's temple, the redhead attempted to relax his face, which had tensed at the boy's question. What had meant to be a seductive, smooth action wavered, and gave way to another meaning entirely. It was gentle, sweet, and all-too-endearing for something that should have been happening in a tent caught in a snow drift in the middle of a war against a country they didn't want to fight. “Tonight our orders are to stay warm.”
“Yeah,” Reno agreed, sliding his own hands along the boy's chest, pressing open-mouthed kisses to his nipples and collarbone. “For now you should just feel, yeah?” Once again, the playful manner of the words fell to the moment as the three tangled within the sheets.
Tomorrow would bring something none of them wanted to face, and for a while a distraction was all they needed to keep their minds from the slaughter the dawn would bring.

I'm tempted to re-write this as make it a full-length story, actually. Liked the story a lot more than I thought I did and the setting is pleasant. I've never written a war-story before, I don't think... Either way, Happy New Years,
clarrolx ! You've been a great beta in the last year, and I hope we can continue on into the next with many more lengthy phone calls in the waning hours of the day. <3
