For my short stories and novels class we had to read The Death of Ivan Ilych. I wasn't looking forward to it because it's a 35 paged short story. Real short, right? It's a story starts out with the death of Ivan Ilych then goes thirty years to the past and starts his biography pretty much. He is a high court judge that separates his home life ( Read more... )

Join the AmeriCorps! I don't thiiink the qualifications are as strict. I mean, you don't get to go over seas or anything...but it's a step towards the Peace Corps...

Whoa, getting all philosophical.

I don't think I'm afraid of death, although I don't expect to die anytime soon so that could be part of it. I just feel that if I were to die tomorrow I've lived a decent life.

As far as the money goes, sure it's nice to have a huge house, a fancy car, and whatever else you want to buy, but it's sad if people can't take some happiness just from the fact that they're alive and experiencing the world around them. I can find happiness just watching the clouds float by on a nice day.

One time in the French department I saw a poster about a speaker who was a French translator in the Peace Corps, and I about died. That would be sooo perfect for me! : ) I understand exactly what you are saying, though. All I want to do is learn. I just wish it didn't cost $3693425, and I also wish I wouldn't flunk out of college just because I didn't understand something right away. Perhaps I will learn from books, but I suppose I need money for those too. ; )

I seriously hate money so much. But I love it because I need it to do anything here.
Education should be free, or a small cost. More people would go to school that way, I believe. The world would be such a better place too...at least that's how I imagine it would be.
