Yes, my phobia of spiders is not at all rational. Pictures of spiders: they genuinely freak me the fuck out. I can close my eyes and imagine spiders and that scares the fuck out of me too

I completely understand, spiders creep me out beyond all belief. Spiders are a common phobia, there is nothing weak or childish about being afraid of those freaky little bastards. Hell, for the longest time I had trouble liking Spider-Man because I mentally linked him to spiders as a kid. :|

I've always been mildly bemused by people who have animal-related phobias. In my experience, people are way scarier. But as you say, it's not rational. But can't you just use imageblock or something? I don't think it's people's fault if they like spiders, as long as they're not doing it deliberately to freak you out.

Disclaimer: I'm not even slightly arachnophobic, and in fact encourage spiders to nest in my house. Once I cried because my mom cleaned away a spider egg sac. And I was in my 20's. They're really helpful as natural pesticides, and get rid of various kinds of bugs I like a good deal less than spiders. Though when I was traveling, I stayed briefly in Osoyoos, where apparently there are venomous spiders whose bites will cause the flesh to die and rot off the affected limb. That did inspire a bit more respect.
