Filteau is out prooving nothing except that he's stupid enough to set himself up for the same sort of relationships he's hated in the past.

Knowing it or not, admitting it or not, your situation reflects why I don't think that whole, "Let's still be friends" idea can work. Given time? Probably possible. But not a real close friendship. A true friendship developing out of that type of situation is incredibly rare.
