It amazes me how much the city has changed since I got out of politics. To think, someone agreed to use our fair city for some sort of zombie or horror film shoot, and they plan on taking over the college campus. I wonder if they're making any sort of donation or doing something to raise attention for us for everything we'll be doing for them ( Read more... )

movie, no politics for me, bullshit

The mayor seems to think that the movie will do nothing but good for the city. With the whole...shooting that happened last month I think he just wants to show that everything's fine now and we can all be light hearted and happy. I'm not quite so sure horror is exactly a good genre to go with, but I think it might help. Besides, many college students don't really need a movie filming to distract them from their studies. But, don't get me wrong, I understand why you're complaining.

I'm sure the mayor does, and the city needs the money and positive publicity. However, the director in question is a no-name, and horror is just not the type of movie I think would really help. You do have a point when it comes to college students though, not all of them are as dedicated as you were. Thank you, Ms. Hinamori, it's always nice to know someone understands.

Dedicated? Perhaps. I had heard boring a little bit more often.

You worked hard, of course others thought you boring. Yet look at where you are now compared to them.

They're snooping around the SFPD headquarters as well. I disagree old man, it could be fun.

I'm sure it could be fun, but fun isn't necessarily what's best.

This city needs something lively to happen. A movie could bring in some good business. Plus it would be nice to see my mug on the screen as an extra.

I believe we have vastly differing definitions on what the city needs, and what would be nice.

I am not looking forward to the impending density of the crowds. It will be difficult to navigate around the police station.

I agree, we don't need increased traffic. This city gets busy enough.

I think it's great. The local businesses are all in a flutter and it'll surely be a big economic boon for the city.

I was roped into costumes for the thing months ago before they settled on a location. I was thrilled when I was told it was going to be here. It's going to help inject a lot of cashflow not only into local businesses but also create a lot of jobs. Small productions like this tend to draw a lot from the community.

I know it's not the first time SF has been the location of a movie shoot, but it certainly has been a while. With cheaper cities that can be made to look like SF, I'm glad they're going for a more authentic feel and the fact that they're using MMU as the backdrop, it's bound to have a nice impact on the flagging film department and make it more competitive with the other art schools in the city.

Haha. Sorry, I guess I'm just more excited than I should be. This is the first production I've headed up costumes, so I'm thrilled. As it is I need to look into hiring a staff for it.

I certainly hope that economically it works out well for the city, and for local businesses.

If you're doing the costumes then I'm sure they'll be incredible, and this is just the type of break you need to help propel your career. I'm sure you're right, I'm just thinking of how similar plans have backfired in the past.

I would like to agree with you on all those points, but I can't stop my skepticism. It's difficult to think that of all the options available this might be the best one. I can only imagine that if this works out well it might help convince other filmmakers to bring their productions here, so we'll at least have some real names in our city.

You have every right to be excited, and I'm excited for you. This is an excellent opportunity for you.

As it's been pointed out, there's no need to be a pessimist about this sort of thing, Aizen. Why should Los Angeles have all of the tourism and glamour?
