Movie Review, or, Look! A Fellini film, I'm pretentious!

        I hate new wave movies, I really do. The French, the Italian, for some reason, after years of great cinema decided that the whole purpose of film was to watch ugly people traipse around fantasy world, or Paris with odd expression and clowns.  Who the fuck wants to see that?  I sure as fuck don't.

You should try their crime flicks. . . .Le Samourai, Bob La Flambeur, Rififi. . .the New Wave did produce a lot of classic crime flicks. Drunken Angel (it's japanese, but heavily influenced by the FNW) might be something else up your craw.

I've seen Le Samourai, some of it was pretty good - sneaking existential philosophy into crime flicks is like putting liver in donuts.

The French New Wave, at least in terms of crime flicks, is what inspired Scorsese to do films like Mean Streets, Taxi Driver, etc.

Avoid anything but the crime flicks. . . France between 1955 and 1965 had some pretty badass crime flicks.
