Stephen Moffat, what are you doing? After the brilliance that was the Anniversary Special, this is the best you can come up with for the regeneration?
The Anniversary Special rekindled fandom in me for a bit. I almost fear this one will damp it down again. Just a month ago, I got a reminder of how brilliant Matt Smith was as the Doctor, but this episode barely shows us the things that make him brilliant. Instead, it's a lot of telling not showing. And what they are showing us is the Doctor being passive and accepting. What happened to "Never give up, never surrender"?
On the positive side, Smith carries the old-age makeup better than Tennant did, and I am genuinely looking forward to what Capaldi will do. He started out well. But I may have to retcon the plot of this thing somehow, in my head.
