The sun is blinding me as I stand outside of the church. It’s too cruel that on what could be one of the worst days of my life the sun is shining and there isn’t a cloud in the sky. Rain pouring down might not have made everything alright but it would have made me feel a little better, knowing that their special day wasn’t as perfect as it could have been.

We were happy together. Admittedly we had our problems but what relationship doesn’t? There are things in our past that we haven’t got over but I thought we could help each other through those times where the memories were haunting. We’ve both dealt with him. He possessed her in her first year at Hogwarts, forced her to open the Chamber of Secrets and to set the basilisk on students. I’ve had my own problems with him during my lifetime, particularly during my years at Hogwarts. Everything I did for her was to protect her, keep her safe. I suppose that’s what forced her away.

The vicar is talking, but I’m not listening. Maybe if I don’t listen I can pretend that this is all a dream and that she’s not really marrying him. All her family are around her and are happy for her and I wish they weren’t. They are welcoming him into the family and it should be me.

They sent me an invitation to the wedding. When I opened it that morning a few months ago it was like they’d stabbed me with a poisoned knife and ever since the poison has been sweeping through my body - only coming to a stop now as I stand here, torn between going in and walking away for good. Only it’s too late, the poison has already spread too far, I can’t carry on like this.

I step up to the door. It’s my final chance, I can go in and sweep her off her feet and take her away where we will live here happily ever after. Yes, that’s what she wants me to do. She’s waiting for me to go in there, that’s the only reason why she’s going through with this, so I can go and stop it. I reach up to the handle and push open the door but then I stop. Frozen in place. She’s standing there with him, gazing into his eyes and looking at him in a way she’d never looked at me. Like he was the only one in the room, and the only one she’d ever want. It was then I saw that she did love him, she may have loved me at one point but not in that way.

The door slammed behind me, startling the guests and the bride. Everyone turned to face me, some of his friends started glaring at me, obviously believing that I was here to cause trouble for the happy couple. He looked like he was about to come and hit me, tell me to get lost and shove me out of the church. She put a calming hand on his arm, convincing him that she wasn’t about to run off.

“Harry! You came!” Ginny smiled at me.

“Yeh, well I couldn’t miss your big day could I?” I forced myself to smile at her. It’s no good, I know I’ve lost her forever.
