Summary: George returns to the shop and has a surprise.

It had been a few months since Harry Potter had defeated Voldemort, a few months since Fred had died and George was still feeling the pain of the loss. He kept turning around, expecting Fred to be at his side. He kept leaving sentences unfinished, expecting Fred to finish them for him. He hadn’t just lost a brother, he’d lost the other half of him and now he just felt incomplete. He wouldn’t be the same again.

Today he was going to visit the shop on Diagon Alley. They hadn’t been able to continue serving there during the war, but the war was over now and he had to go back there and sort things out, even if he didn’t particularly want to. Too many memories of better times and it wouldn’t be the same without Fred. He’d been putting this off for a while but the longer he went without going back, the harder it would be.

Slowly he opened the door, expecting to find the inside in ruins. The shop was just how it was left, only dusty. It was strange, he had been sure that the Death Eaters would have gone in and smashed everything up.

“Only just decided to show up have you?” came a voice from the other side of the shop.

George froze. He recognised that voice, but it couldn’t be, it was just his mind playing tricks on him again. He knew he shouldn’t have come back, it was too soon.

“Oi! I’m speaking to you George!” came the voice again.

He walked over in the direction of the voice, curiosity getting the better of him. He stopped. He couldn’t believe it. In front of him was Fred, just as he remembered him except he was transparent and floating just above the ground.

“You’re a ghost?” he whispered.

“Of course I am.”

“But how? I thought only people scared of death came back as ghosts - or had unfinished business if you have the same beliefs as Muggles. You weren’t scared of death.”

“I was scared of facing death without you, it wouldn’t be the same. So I’ve come back as a ghost to help you with the shop and then when you die we can both move on at the same time.”

George felt like crying. He had his twin back, even if he was a ghost and they couldn’t properly work the shop together. He could still give ideas and tell jokes and it would be nearly the same.

“You have to promise me one thing though.” Fred said.

“What?”

“Just do all the things I wanted to do but never got the chance to when I was alive. That way I can still partly live through you. Remember I’m always with you.”
