When I said that Winston was cured I was merely throwing in a random line that was related to the novel. He has been turned into a completely different person, an ideal Party member (despite his lacking the bronzed skin, blond hair and chiseled peasant features)
I was speaking from O'Brians point of view as both a joke and because the Party is the form of authority in the novel. They control the past and the present, and in a sense the control the novel. Had it been written in the first person, I would feel differently but Big Brothers constant presence made me feel that the Party itself guided the novel.
