summary: who even cares about cell anatomy, honestly? well, jongdae doesn’t, that's for sure. (but he thinks he wouldn’t have a hard time acing his biology classes if he's actually studying the anatomy of junmyeon's body, instead.)
a/n: my entry for the second round of criticalcapture, written for the amazing feenim! huge thanks to n for holding my hand throughout the entire writing process of this fic! couldn’t finish this without you and your helpful inputs and constant cheering~  <3

“Are we really doing this?”

Jongdae can’t quite count the number of times he’s asked that same question in the span of five minutes but he hazily thinks it’s probably enough to have all of his friends gag the fuck out of him for being such a talkative drunk. But then again, no one can really blame him for being so inquisitive, not when something big and life-changing is just about to happen tonight.

Baekhyun flatly looks at him. “For the hundredth time, Jongdae, yes. And can you please shut up for at least one second? We already know how excited you are; we don’t need you spewing your feelings all over the place.”

“I’m not excited,” Jongdae denies, pouting.

“Yeah. And I don’t find any kind of pleasure whenever I punch the living daylights out of Baekhyun,” Kyungsoo deadpans. In the background, Baekhyun just gurgles his protest. Everyone ignores him. “We all know you’ve wanted to take body shots off of Kim Junmyeon since time immemorial, Jongdae.”

Jongdae only pouts again, unable to come up with a better response to Kyungsoo’s accusation. Well, it’s not so much as an accusation as it is the truth, but Jongdae’s not about to give his friends the satisfaction of knowing that they’re right about these things. (Junmyeon has also starred in eight out of Jongdae's last ten wet dreams but his friends don’t really need to know that either.)

“I’m not doing it,” Jongdae huffs, crossing his arms over his chest like a petulant child.

Chanyeol just snorts at him. “Whatever. We all know you’re still going to.”

Jongdae is thoroughly displeased at the fact that Chanyeol (and his bunch of shitty friends) knows him too well. It’s not easy to persuade Jongdae to do a lot of things when he’s sober, but get him drunk enough and you can practically make him do a passable lap dance and a striptease if you’re lucky enough. Jongdae knows he’s very much drunk at this moment, however, so he’s pretty sure that Chanyeol’s right: he is, in fact, on the verge of taking body shots off of Kim Junmyeon. Fuck.

“You are all very horrible people,” Jongdae grumbles. Or at least that's what Jongdae means to say - his tongue turns into a cotton ball and his accent makes him sound a lot more incoherent than usual when he’s drunk.

“I’m 300% sure you actually meant best so I’m going to let that slide this time,” Baekhyun says. He pushes Jongdae in Junmyeon’s general direction and doesn’t even help him when Jongdae stumbles and almost falls flat on his face. Asshole. “Come on, just do it. We don’t have all night.”

He probably wouldn’t whine as much if it was any other guy, Jongdae thinks to himself. But the thing is, he’s not doing it with just some random stranger at the club - he’s going to take body shots off of his very hot senior and, well, Kim Junmyeon is just about the farthest thing from being just any other guy in Jongdae’s book.

“Hi,” Junmyeon greets.

Jongdae blinks and realizes, with a start, that he’s already standing in front of Junmyeon. He clears his throat and tries not to be a little more embarrassing than usual. “Hi,” he says. “So. My friends told me I’m supposed to-do, um, body shots?” Nervous laughter spills from his lips right after and Jongdae hates how Junmyeon’s mere presence can already turn him into such an awkward, can’t-even-get-a-sentence-out-in-one-go kind of mess. This is already turning out to be a bad idea than he originally thought.

“Yeah,” Junmyeon simply answers. With his grin a bit loose and eyes a little too bright, it’s pretty obvious that Junmyeon's drunk, too, and, quite frankly, it’s the only thing that’s slightly consoling for Jongdae’s dignity at this point. Maybe tomorrow they can all just pretend that this didn’t happen.

Kyungsoo suddenly pops up at his side to hand him the lime and the salt and Jongdae finds himself unable to do anything else but accept them. He looks at the items on his hands and then glances back up at Junmyeon, almost stares at the lopsided grin on his face. The reality of the situation he’s in is hitting Jongdae hard like a train wreck all over again.

So this is really happening.

“Thanks for doing our friend a favor.” Jongdae hears Baekhyun tell Luhan. He shifts his head to the right and sees them standing next to each other, a little too close, perhaps, than what is considered normally acceptable distance for just friends. Also, Jongdae doesn’t know if he’s only imagining the possessive arm Luhan has around Baekhyun’s waist. “He needs all the help that he can get when it comes to his pathetic love life.”

“Or lack thereof!” Chanyeol rudely throws in. He giggles right after, ugly and obnoxious, and Jongdae thinks his aim’s probably still good enough to land a punch right at Chanyeol’s face.

“It’s really no big deal,” Luhan replies. “I’m glad I can be of any help.”

On his side, Baekhyun hums delightedly. “Then you’ll be glad to know that I’m accepting any kind of help you can offer me tonight.”

Luhan just humors him by smiling indulgently at Baekhyun before whispering something in his ear. Baekhyun ends up giggling like an annoying drunk school girl at whatever Luhan just said and it takes everything in Jongdae to physically hold down all those shots of vodka he has downed tonight. Ugh. Disgusting.

Jongdae makes the mistake of gagging out loud and Baekhyun momentarily stops looking at Luhan with stars in his eyes just to throw an icy glare in his direction. “Don’t you have something important you need to do?”

Jongdae grimaces but begrudgingly agrees. Yes, he does have something he needs to do and Junmyeon’s looming presence is a bit of an awful reminder of that. After several calming breaths and a ridiculous amount of self pep talk, Jongdae ends up standing way too close to Junmyeon, their faces almost touching. This is probably the closest he’d ever gotten with Junmyeon since he started attending the same school with him and while he’s all about being thankful for everything that comes his way, Jongdae’s just really too drunk right now to think about which god he needs to send his gratitude to for this opportunity.

Chanyeol then hands him the tequila shot with a wolfish grin. “Fighting!”

Jongdae wants to cry at his horrible choice of friends. That’s just about the worst kind of encouragement that Jongdae can receive in a situation like this. But then again, Chanyeol can be pretty hopeless with giving advice on his best days so Jongdae supposes this isn’t really surprising, at all.

Junmyeon tilts his head to the side, the lime helpfully wedged in between his teeth, and all Jongdae can see is a lovely pale neck that would definitely look a lot lovelier with bruising red marks blooming all over his throat.

Wait, what.

Immediately, Jongdae shakes his head to rid of that image and takes one last deep breath before his tongue makes contact with Junmyeon’s skin.

(Jongdae would’ve loved to take a body shot on Junmyeon’s stomach, quite honestly. But he suddenly remembers it’s a little too close to his crotch and Jongdae doesn’t really know if he’s ready for that yet.)

Jongdae, even in his drunken state, is fairly sure that a poorly contained moan just rumbled deep from Junmyeon’s throat.

Before he can even open his mouth, there’s salt already shoved at his face courtesy of Kyungsoo and Jongdae forces himself to sprinkle some of it on Junmyeon’s neck before he can even have a chance to back-out.

“You ready?” Jongdae asks. The grin Junmyeon has around the lime is eager and inviting, as though he’s been looking forward to this just as much as Jongdae has, and Jongdae can’t help but wonder if he should’ve asked that question to himself, instead.

Jongdae musters enough courage to place his free hand on Junmyeon’s waist just as he licks the salt off his skin in one long swipe. For a brief second, Jongdae’s tempted to bite down and suck on his neck, if only to satisfy his curiosity and find out the taste of Junmyeon’s skin. But then, someone reminds him about the tequila shot in his hand and all Jongdae can do is down it all in one go and hope that he won’t end up puking all over Junmyeon after.

The feeling of Junmyeon’s fingers cradling the back of his head is the only thing that distracts Jongdae from the horrible burning in his throat. Everything’s spinning a little faster around him and Jongdae doesn’t have enough time to understand what’s really going on, so he just lets Junmyeon slowly close what little distance is still sitting between their mouths without any question.

For a fleeting moment, their lips touch and it’s ridiculous how a brief press of their mouths has Jongdae already craving for more. But before he can even act on impulse, his tongue brushes against the lemon, the sour tartness bursting all over his tastebuds in a flash, and Jongdae suddenly remembers what he’s supposed to be doing - so he bites down and forces himself to pull back, stumbling a little bit as he struggles to find balance on his own. Junmyeon’s hand has already dropped from the back of his head, but the skin on Jongdae’s nape still tingles from where Junmyeon has held him steady just moments ago.

There’s a couple of wolf whistles after that little performance they just did and Jongdae turns around to acknowledge them, giving a wobbly bow and a huge grin to their audience.

After that, Jongdae spends the rest of the night trying to avoid Junmyeon. Which is kind of difficult, really, because Baekhyun has already attached himself to Luhan - which surprisingly turns out to be Junmyeon’s best friend - like an annoying leech and both Chanyeol and Kyungsoo have found Junmyeon interesting enough to hang around with him.

Jongdae groans at his luck. He can only hope this is going to be the first and last time he’ll be in such close proximity like this with Junmyeon. (Or so help him and his hormones.)

*

Jongdae swears he’s going to try his hardest to abstain from drinking from this day onward.

Well, that or he’s going to stop listening to his shitty friends and their equally shitty suggestions of drinking the night away when they’ve still got classes the next day.

Unsurprisingly, Jongdae hasn’t quite recovered from his impressive hangover yet - his head still feels like it’ll explode any second now and there’s a pounding behind his eyelids that he can’t get rid of even after he buries himself in his sheets and sleeps like the dead. In retrospect, Jongdae thinks he probably shouldn’t have allowed Baekhyun to bait him into taking those last five shots of soju last night.

God, he feels like death.

Kyungsoo looks at Jongdae as soon as he settles into his seat. “How are you feeling?” he asks, as though “I FEEL LIKE DYING!!!!11” isn’t written all over Jongdae’s face yet.

“Like shit,” Jongdae groans, downplaying it a little. “I shouldn’t have let you guys roped me into going to that club last night.”

“What? And miss the opportunity of doing that body shot with Junmyeon?”

“That’s the point,” Jongdae almost screeches right at Kyungsoo’s face. It’s kind of a very late realization but Jongdae’s pretty sure licking salt off of Junmyeon’s skin is the first step down the slippery slope of inevitably losing his mind.

Kyungsoo just looks at him and Jongdae hates it when he ends up being the recipient of one of Kyungsoo’s patented Intent Stare. It gives him the goose bumps and makes him feel like he’s ten times the actual loser than he really is. Kyungsoo’s a bit relenting this time, however, so he just turns his gaze away after a few seconds and shrugs. “Whatever you say, Jongdae.”

Feeling like he can at least breathe a little easier now, Jongdae releases a sigh of relief and turns his attention towards the front of the room, where his Biology teacher, Mr. Choi, is distributing their recently graded exams from last week.

Jongdae is frankly not the best student in his Biology class, nor is he the worst neither. He thinks he’s actually doing pretty decent, despite the alarming number of exams he’s been failing lately. But, well, that isn’t something that can’t be fixed with a little studying here and there.

Or maybe not.

Mr. Choi stops by his seat and places his exam on his desk, sparing him just a quick glance before he moves on to another student. Jongdae doesn’t really know what he’s expecting - he’s already given up his hopes of finding a decent grade on his exams but if there’s one thing Jongdae knows and is fairly confident of, it’s that he’d studied just enough to pass this one, that’s for sure.

Jongdae turns his paper over and blinks, unable to believe the mark written on his paper.

38/100. Thirty fucking eight over one fucking hundred.

Jongdae hears the metaphorical sound of his world breaking apart over Mr. Choi’s rather loud voice.

“Since it’s the first day after your exams, I’m letting you guys free for today. Just make sure to read chapters 8 and 9 for our recitation next week.” A chorus of mixed cheers and groans can be heard from the majority of the class. “And Kim Jongdae-”

Jongdae looks at him from his seat, already dreading the next words that he knows will be coming out from his teacher’s mouth.

“Can you stay for a while? I need to talk to you about your exam,” Mr. Choi says.

And so, while everyone else is packing their things and quickly leaving the classroom one by one, Jongdae stays in his seat, trying his best not to fidget out of nervousness. Kyungsoo makes it a point to mouth “I’ll wait for you outside” at him before he eventually steps out of the room, leaving Jongdae to slowly shove his notebooks into his bag and sling it over his shoulder. When Jongdae makes his way down to the front, Mr. Choi is waiting for him, a worried rant already on the tip of his tongue.

“Your grades are quickly dropping, Jongdae,” he starts and Jongdae cringes. He’s never had a teacher speak to him about his grades before. “And you know no teacher wants their students failing their class. So I decided to go ahead and ask Kim Junmyeon to be your Biology tutor for the meantime.”

What.

“It’s nothing permanent, Jongdae. He’ll just be tutoring you until you can get your grades back up and, with his help, I know you can do that in no time. You’ll have to talk to him so you can arrange your schedules, however, and-”

What.

"Can't you assign me to someone else, seongsaenim?” Jongdae finds himself blurting out. He pouts, trying to win Mr. Choi’s agreement with his award-winning aegyo (which Baekhyun never fails to remind him is actually all kinds of disgusting but Baekhyun isn't really one to talk. He's just as disgusting even when he's not doing aegyo, anyway) but Jongdae doesn’t know if it's really working because Mr. Choi has that fairly unimpressed expression splayed on his face at this moment.

Mr. Choi sighs. “He’s my best student in Biology, Jongdae. If there’s someone who can help you get through our lessons easily, it’s him. Is there any reason why you don’t want him as your tutor?”

Jongdae can think of at least ten different reasons why having Junmyeon as his Biology tutor is a really bad idea. For one, Jongdae’s not really sure how he can focus on listing down all the structures and organelles that a plant cell has when all he can think about is how much he wants to suck bruises on that very pale and inviting neck whenever he sees Kim Junmyeon in the hallway.

But he’d rather bury himself six feet underground than say that out loud, of course.

Mr. Choi’s still looking at him expectantly, and Jongdae has to inwardly kick himself so he can say something. “Nothing in particular. Just-” Jongdae slumps his shoulders in defeat. “Alright, I’ll talk to Junmyeon sunbaenim about this.”

Jongdae walks away from Mr. Choi’s table with only one thought in mind: he's going to be so fucked (and not in the kind of way Jongdae wants, sadly).

In the end, they’d agreed to have their tutorial sessions every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for one and a half hour each day. Jongdae’s pretty okay with that because: 1. it works perfectly fine with both of their class schedules and; 2. he thinks seeing Junmyeon in three out of seven days in a week won’t actually cause too much of a damage on his rapidly waning self-control.

Jongdae makes his way to the library with a fervent wish that Junmyeon doesn’t have any kind of lucid memories about what happened that night in the club. He’s already feeling mortified enough as it is; he doesn’t really need his own tutor reminding him about the things he ended up doing in his drunken state.

Junmyeon is already there when Jongdae arrives and he doesn’t look as terrible as Jongdae feels; quite the opposite, he actually looks like the epitome of a good student - no creases on his school uniform, tie neatly in place, the concentrated look splayed on his face as he sits there and calmly reads his book. The image just honestly makes Jongdae want to do even more nasty things to Junmyeon, if only to prove Baekhyun’s awful theory about good boys being bad in bed.

Fuck. He really should stop thinking about rated stuff starting now.

Jongdae tucks that thought away at the back of his head (for future purposes, of course) and forces himself to focus. He takes one, two, three steps - and it isn’t until Jongdae’s awkwardly standing in front of his table that Junmyeon finally looks up.

It’s only when Jongdae’s standing this close that he realizes Junmyeon’s wearing glasses and Jongdae has to quickly remind himself of Mr. Choi’s disappointed face so he won’t end up hightailing it out of there. Out of all the guys existing in his school, Jongdae just has to be attracted to someone who also looks so damn good with glasses. Fuck his life, really.

The smile that easily pulls Junmyeon’s lips upward, however, has Jongdae almost melting on the floor. “Oh. Hi Jongdae,” he says.

Jongdae finds himself smiling back at him, despite how weird and so terribly out of the place it probably looks on his face right now. He pulls up a chair and plops down on it, then takes his sweet time to get his Biology book out of his bag. Jongdae can feel the heat of someone watching him like a prickle on the back of his head and it makes him a hundred times more conscious of his actions.

He places his book on the table and tries not to squirm in his seat as he acknowledges Junmyeon beside him. “I hope I’m not being too much of a bother or anything. Were you reading something for your class, hyung?”

Junmyeon only waves his concern off. “Yeah. But it’s alright, I can always continue this at home. You’re my priority right now.” Junmyeon beams at him again and Jongdae has to surreptitiously bite down on his bottom lip to stop the giddy smile from successfully pulling the corners of his mouth. “So, should we start?”

Jongdae just nods before handing his book over to Junmyeon. It doesn’t take long before Junmyeon finds the chapter that they should be focusing on for Jongdae’s class next meeting and he immediately goes on a long, detailed explanation about the differences of a prokaryotic and a eukaryotic cell.

Jongdae knows he should be listening to whatever the hell Junmyeon is talking about, but he just finds himself thoroughly distracted by a lot of things - their close proximity, the heat radiating off of Junmyeon's skin, the hint of his cologne that Jongdae may or may not be subtly sniffing for a while now. It also doesn’t help that their thighs are almost touching because Junmyeon keeps on moving closer and closer to Jongdae as they continue to leaf through the 2 chapters of his biology lesson today (which is just absolutely unnecessary, Jongdae thinks. But who is he to complain, really).

He ends up spending the next thirty-five minutes of their tutorial session in a sort of daze, just looking vacantly at Joonmyun and thinking about all the weird shapes his lips make around certain words. Jongdae is abruptly pulled out of his reverie, however, when Joonmyun suddenly leans forward, their faces almost an inch away from each other, and softly calls out his name.

“Jongdae?” Junmyeon asks. “Are you listening?”

He blinks in succession and immediately pulls back as soon as he regains awareness of his surroundings. Damn, Junmyeon’s lips looked even more inviting up close. Jongdae clears his throat. “I…” was too busy thinking about your pretty lips wrapped around my dick so I couldn’t really hear what you’re saying, can you repeat that again? “…didn’t quite get the last thing you said, I’m sorry?”

More like Jongdae didn’t hear everything for the last thirty-five minutes, really. If there’s a perfect time for the ground to just open up and swallow him whole, Jongdae thinks this would be it. To have Junmyeon catch him being blatantly inattentive - Jongdae can’t believe he’d been so careless like that. When Junmyeon sighs and starts setting his book aside, Jongdae already knows he’s in big trouble.

"Is it going to be this awkward for the rest of our tutoring sessions?" Junmyeon asks.

Jongdae wishes he can physically wrestle the words out of his throat so he can say anything other than, "Awkward?"

Junmyeon softly laughs under his breath. "I mean, will you be able to actually focus on our lessons instead of just my mouth?" Junmyeon clarifies. Jongdae tries to stop the blush that's quickly rising on his cheeks.

On the other hand, Jongdae thinks it's probably best that he couldn't actually force anything other than a single word out because keeping his mouth shut seems like the best idea in a humiliating situation like this.

"Um," Jongdae only says.

"Not that I actually mind you staring at my mouth, Jongdae," Joonmyun admits. Jongdae wants to die out of pure mortification; this conversation can’t get any worse, can it? “But I was assigned to be your tutor, and I‘m worried about your grades.”

For the record, Jongdae’s worried about his grades, too, but the concern he has for whatever will still remain of his dignity after this conversation just pretty much outweighs everything right now.

“I’m sorry,” Jongdae mutters. He doesn’t want Junmyeon to think that he’s only wasting his time with Jongdae - that’s just the last thing Jongdae wants to happen on their very first tutorial session. “I’ll try not to lose focus next time.”

“Should we start again, then?” Junmyeon asks him.

Jongdae settles on his seat properly, feeling determined now more than ever to finish his tutorial session with Junmyeon smoothly today. “Yes, please.”

Junmyeon smiles and patiently goes back again to where they first started. “Okay. So, first and foremost, we’re going to define what a cell-”

This time, Jongdae tries his very hardest to concentrate.

*

“So, are you going to tell us that you finally lost control of your hormonal self and jumped Junmyeon during your tutorial session yesterday?” is what Baekhyun greets him with as soon as Jongdae reaches their table, his typical order of rice and kimchi placed on his tray.

Chanyeol looks at him, almost bouncing in his seat while waiting for Jongdae’s answer, while Kyungsoo just continues to eat his own food. He might seem disinterested to some, but Jongdae knows he’s just as curious and eager as Chanyeol is. Kyungsoo just knows how to be subtle about it, that’s all. (Chanyeol’s pretty much an open book with his emotions.)

“Sorry to burst your bubble, but I was perfectly in control of myself in front of Junmyeon hyung yesterday,” Jongdae says with a lot more confidence than entirely necessary.

All three of his friends look at Jongdae like he’d just said something in alien language while he’s drunk (which would have made everything that more unintelligible, to be honest) and Jongdae always hates it when he’s being put in the spotlight like this. One of the drawbacks of having them as childhood friends is that they’re pretty familiar with all the little telltale signs when Jongdae is lying through his teeth. They also know how to wrench the truth out of him without even having to say a single word.

Jongdae looks up from his bowl of kimchi - which is really the biggest mistake on his part - and finds Baekhyun smirking at him, like he knows what exactly went on with Jongdae and Junmyeon yesterday, and no, he swears to everything he’s not going to fall for that damn trick again. No, no, no, no-

“Okay, fine, I almost did!” Jongdae finally admits, almost throwing his hands up in frustration. He can’t believe he fell for that trick again. “But it’s not my fault he looked so hot with those glasses on, alright?”

“Well. This is actually not surprising,” Kyungsoo says after a beat.

“Yeah, I could’ve sworn I saw this coming even from a mile away,” Chanyeol agrees.

“For the record, I already predicted this would happen when I saw you ogling Junmyeon’s ass back when we were in freshman year,” Baekhyun tells him.

Jongdae doesn’t even have it in himself to refute Baekhyun’s statement. In his defense, Junmyeon’s ass is really a magnificent thing to ogle at and Jongdae thinks that’s not his fault either.

“Sometimes, I don’t know why I’m still friends with all of you,” Jongdae groans. He probably could’ve saved himself from a lot of embarrassing situations if he’d befriended, say, that quiet Chinese kid - Yixing, his brain helpfully supplies - in his Literature class. Less trouble for him and all that.

“Oh, please, you love us, Jongdae,” Chanyeol says. There’s a smug grin on his face that Jongdae would honestly love to erase with his fist.

“Yeah, I love to strangle all of you most of the time,” Jongdae grunts. He knows he’s being way overdramatic again, if Kyungsoo rolling his eyes so hard at him is any indication, but he literally doesn’t give a single flying fuck about what anyone thinks of him at this moment. He’s stuck with horrible friends who can’t give him useful advice whatsoever so Jongdae’s sure this is a good enough reason to forgo eating his lunch so he can just lifelessly slump on the table. “I can’t believe I’m going to fail Biology just because my tutor is too fucking hot for me to handle.”

Baekhyun scoffs. “You won’t fail if you could just stop thinking with your dick first, Jongdae.”

Jongdae takes a huge offense at that because he doesn’t always think with his dick first, thank you very much. (Just-maybe a few times. But that’s not the point.) Jongdae exerts a huge amount of effort to lift his head so he can glare at Baekhyun but all Baekhyun does is mockingly grin at him in return.

“Look, if you want to dick Junmyeon that much, why don’t you-”

And it is, of course, this precise moment that Junmyeon suddenly appears out of nowhere, tapping Jongdae on his shoulder to let him know of his presence. Jongdae almost jumps out of his skin, but more so than being taken by surprise, he’s just feeling scared shitless that Junmyeon might have overheard his awful friends talking about Jongdae wanting to dick him, of all things.

“Uh. Hi, hyung,” Jongdae greets nervously. Junmyeon just smiles down at him, pleasant and familiar, and Jongdae can’t find a single trace in his face that can somehow verify if he’s really heard their conversation or not. “How long have you, um, been standing there?”

“Not too long. I just thought I’d stop by your table when I saw you-all three of you, I mean.” Beside him, Luhan snorts and if it wasn’t for that amused noise reaching his ears, Jongdae would’ve honestly never noticed him standing there in the first place. Junmyeon tries to subtly elbow Luhan in the ribs to shut him up. “I’m…not interrupting something, am I?”

“Oh, not really~” Baekhyun singsongs before going back to his usual business of making googly eyes right at Luhan’s direction.

Jongdae, unlike before, tries to keep all of his focus on Junmyeon just so he won’t have to see his friends. Even without looking, Jongdae’s pretty sure Chanyeol’s grinning like a madman and if Baekhyun wasn’t so distracted, he’d probably a have that smug look on his face right now - basically just all their usual expressions whenever Jongdae and Junmyeon are so much as within a few feet away from each other.

“Anyway, I should be going. I have class in a few minutes,” Junmyeon tells him a bit apologetically. Though why there’s a hint of regret in his tone, Jongdae isn’t exactly sure of the reason why. “I’ll see you tomorrow at the library, Jongdae!”

Joonmyun and Luhan are already both a few steps out the cafeteria door before Jongdae can even open his mouth to say goodbye. Oh well. It’s probably better this way. There’s always a 95% possibility that Jongdae will end up blurting something embarrassing in front of Junmyeon, anyway.

There’s still 15 minutes left before his next class but Jongdae decides that he’d rather spend that remaining time getting a nap than listening to Baekhyun gush over how manly he thinks Luhan is despite his pretty features saying otherwise. He’s still a little sleepy - he’d been up later than usual last night, answering the practice exam Junmyeon had given him after their tutorial session - so some shuteye would probably do him good.

“Where are you going?” Chanyeol asks as soon as Jongdae gets up from his seat.

“To class.”

Kyungsoo’s eyebrows almost stitch themselves together in confusion. “But class doesn’t start in 15 minutes?”

“I know,” Jongdae says, shrugging. “Just don’t wanna be late.”

“Well, whatever. Go. But you better make sure you’re not leaving us to run after your loverboy, Kim Jongdae!” Baekhyun yells just loud enough for the students surrounding their table to hear. There’s a stream of raucous laughter that soon follows and Jongdae swears he’s going to murder both Baekhyun and Chanyeol in their sleep tonight.

Jongdae quickly turns back just to give him the finger before finally walking off.

*

When Jongdae sits down for his second tutorial session with Junmyeon the next day, the least thing he expects is to have Junmyeon already speaking his mind out to him, frank and pretty bold with his words.

But that’s what he gets, anyway.

“Do I make you uncomfortable?” Junmyeon asks after Jongdae just shuddered for the third time in the first fifteen minutes of their session. He’d accidentally grazed his arm against Junmyeon’s while he was trying to reach over for his pen, and Jongdae felt immensely guilty for putting the hurt in Junmyeon’s expression as soon as he pulled back. “I’m actually starting to think that you don’t really like me that much.”

Junmyeon follows that up with a hollow laugh and Jongdae wants to beat himself up for being the cause of that awful sound. In the end, Jongdae just resorts to biting his tongue, lest he says something ridiculous like how he’s always liked Junmyeon ever since he saw him during his orientation program in freshman year, or how Junmyeon never really failed to catch his eye even in a sea of students.

“I willingly licked salt off of your neck that one night in the club, though, hyung,” Jongdae finds himself blurting out. He could’ve thought of another reason - maybe something a lot less embarrassing, really - but it’s the first thing that tumbled out of his mouth even before he could force his brain to work. “And I don’t do body shots with just anyone, especially not with a person I hate so.”

Junmyeon’s soft laugh sounds a little better after that, and Jongdae thinks he looks far more pleased than usual, his bright smile lighting up his face. “Should I consider myself special then?”

“You should,” Jongdae says, nodding sagely. It doesn’t take long before he bursts into amused laughter as well, more for himself than for the situation he’s in. He’d just told Junmyeon that he’s a lot more special to Jongdae than he thinks. Granted, it was an indirect confession but Jongdae knows he’s smart enough to read between the lines.

The rest of their tutorial session passes by like a blur then, everything going a little bit more smoothly and genial between them after that conversation. Jongdae can’t help but feel like a heavy weight had been lifted off of his shoulders - he can breathe a lot easier now around Junmyeon, can talk to him without stuttering out his words most of the time. He still shivers when Junmyeon so much as brushes against him, but all Junmyeon does is give him a pleased look in response.

It’s a start.

*

Jongdae is trembling in his seat.

He tries to calm down with deep, even breaths, tries to distract himself with just about anything he can think of, but nothing is really working. He shouldn’t even be this antsy, to be honest, but every time Mr. Choi passes by him and so much as stops in front of his seat for a millisecond, Jongdae’s heart goes on overdrive and beats like it wants to fly right out of his mouth.

Mr. Choi is handing them their latest Biology exam today. Which isn’t really anything out of the ordinary, if you ask Jongdae, but this is kind of a really big deal for him because it’s his first exam after getting Junmyeon as his tutor and he badly, badly wants to get a decent grade on this one. It’s his way of letting Junmyeon know that all his time and efforts aren’t being wasted, that Jongdae treats all of their tutorial sessions seriously.

His heart immediately thumps hard against his ribcage when Mr. Choi stops by his seat again. But this time, he doesn’t move, only stays rooted in his spot until Jongdae looks up. Jongdae doesn’t even want to imagine how terrified he looks right now.

And then words start to tumble out of Mr. Choi’s mouth.

“Good job, Jongdae,” Mr. Choi says as he hands Jongdae his paper, patting him on the shoulder in the process. “Keep it up.”

It’s only when Mr. Choi is already a few steps away from his seat does Jongdae finally find himself breathing. He decides not to keep himself waiting any longer; with his heart thumping so loud and hard against his ribcage, Jongdae tentatively looks down to take a peek. It doesn’t take a second longer for a blindingly bright smile to slip on his face.

He passed.

Jongdae fucking passed his exam.

He grabs his phone from his pocket and, as surreptitiously as he can, sends a quick message to his Biology tutor-slash-savior-slash-ultimate love of his life.

to: my junmyeon hyung~~
i passed the exam, hyung! (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧

Jongdae doesn’t really expect to get a quick response - he vaguely recalls Junmyeon telling him something about a club meeting he needs to attend to at this hour - but he still does, anyway.

from: my junmyeon hyung~~
Congratulations~ I knew you could do it!
I’m really happy for you, Jongdae!! c:

to: my junmyeon hyung~~
let’s go out n celebrate, hyung!!
((ur treat ofc kekeke))

from: my junmyeon hyung~~
Sure, after class? You already have smth in mind?

Before Jongdae can even pull up a blank message to type in, another reply from Junmyeon comes through, one that has Jongdae almost smiling like crazy.

from: my junmyeon hyung~~
Also, I’m pretty sure I’m already spoiling you rotten.
Hahaha. Is this how tutors are supposed to be? ;)

to: my junmyeon hyung~~
u luv spoiling me tho, admit it :3 :3 :3
oops, i think mr choi just caught me txting under my desk
he gave me the stink eye just now lmaooooo
need 2 go. i’ll see u later, hyung!!!

Jongdae tucks his phone back in his pocket as soon as he sends the message. Up front, Mr. Choi is telling them something about the three chapters they need to start reading tonight in preparation for another quiz that’s coming up in the next few days, but Jongdae only finds himself unable to care about anything else at this moment.

He’s pretty excited to show Junmyeon his exam, to hear Junmyeon tell him how much he deserves this grade because he’d worked so hard for it, to see the proud smile on his lips (the same smile that Jongdae would love to kiss off of his face, actually).

He has one more class left before the day’s over and Jongdae just can’t wait.

*

It might be surprising for some, but Jongdae finds that there are actually good things coming out of Mr. Choi’s rather spontaneous decision to assign Junmyeon as his Biology tutor.

For one, his grades are already starting to look up, despite the fact that he and Junmyeon have only met for a grand total of seven times for the past three weeks. Junmyeon is a really great teacher, however, always patient and accommodating to every single one of Jongdae’s questions so, maybe, this kind of end result isn’t really surprising at all.

Secondly, Jongdae eventually draws the conclusion that there is really more to Junmyeon than what one meets the eye. From an objective point of view, it’s easy to see that he’s a nice boy, friendly and obliging to everyone who needs his help. Not to mention, Junmyeon is also incredibly intelligent and responsible - juggling his studies and extracurricular activities at the same time is really no easy feat.

But Jongdae doubts if a lot of people know how lame Junmyeon can get most of the time; how Junmyeon almost always snorts first before he can actually finish telling Jongdae the punch line of most of his jokes; how Junmyeon ends up unconsciously nibbling the end of his pen when he’s too concentrated over his work; how he rarely gets frustrated over something because he was brought up with a constant reminder that anger never really solves anything; how Junmyeon is actually a lot more mindful than Jongdae thinks when it comes to sharing his personal space with anyone.

And yet, here he is, standing right inside Junmyeon’s room, with Junmyeon just hovering nervously beside him.

(Junmyeon had joked that Jongdae had earned the right to study at his room when he almost aced another one of his exams and Jongdae, not wanting to make this an even bigger deal than it already was, just forced himself to believe that reason.)

“So…yeah,” Junmyeon starts, a little bashful. Jongdae wants to coo at him because Junmyeon becomes ten times more adorable when he’s shy like this. “This is my room.”

Jongdae looks around and immediately thinks how Junmyeon’s personality just shines through in every corner of his room. It isn’t very big - just enough for a single bed, a study table and a little shelf on the side where Jongdae can see a variety of books neatly arranged and stacked against each other. There are also some posters hanging on his walls, a few picture frames littering his bedside table, and Jongdae has to resist the urge to crouch down when he sees a picture of a young Junmyeon in his jumper, looking so adorably happy with a toothy grin on his face.

“It’s nice,” Jongdae says. It’s actually more than nice - Jongdae can imagine himself spending most of his time here. If Junmyeon would allow him, of course. “Simple but very homey. It’s so you, hyung.”

“Simple isn’t your nice term for boring, is it?” Junmyeon asks, grinning. He sits on his bed and pats the empty space beside him for Jongdae to take. Jongdae’s only too happy to oblige.

“Nah. You know I’m not one to sugarcoat things, hyung.” Jongdae laughs and lets himself fall on Junmyeon’s bed. It feels a lot more comfortable than Jongdae has imagined. “And, besides, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with being simple. I like simple.”

I like you, Jongdae means to say, but he thinks this isn’t the right time to let that confession slip. (Jongdae wonders if there will ever be a right time, anyway.)

For a few seconds, Junmyeon does nothing but stare at him, an intent look on his face that has Jongdae almost squirming in his position. Jongdae badly wants to find something in there, in the cloud of emotion that shines through his eyes, but before Jongdae can even try to discover what it is, Junmyeon blinks and it’s gone, just as quick as it appeared. There are no traces of his earlier expression left and Junmyeon’s usual warm smile and gentle gaze only lie in its wake.

“We should probably get to studying now if you want to finish your 3 chapters today,” Junmyeon says, patting his knee. “Come on, not much time left to waste.”

He groans but gets up nonetheless. Jongdae imagines he's going to have to study again as soon as he gets home tonight, because it's not like he's going to be learning a whole lot in their tutorial session today.

Not when Junmyeon and his bed (or, rather, Junmyeon on the bed) are both damn good distractions for his concentration.

When Jongdae pulls Baekhyun aside to ask for advice for his ongoing Junmyeon Predicament, Jongdae isn’t really surprised to get nothing but, “You’re so hopeless.”

In retrospect, Jongdae knows that Baekhyun is just as shit as Chanyeol when it comes to giving advice (it’s probably one of the reasons why they’re friends) so it’s probably a mistake on his part that he even thought about asking Baekhyun for one in the first place.

Jongdae wishes he can rebut Baekhyun’s comment, can tell him straight up that he’s not as hopeless as his friends find him to be, but Jongdae knows it’s the truth. He’s been pining over Junmyeon for years now, always admiring him from afar where no kind of rejection can hurt him and his chance at happiness.

Baekhyun knows this. He’s been Jongdae’s confidante during his said years of pinning and pointless chasing, after all.

“I can’t believe that’s the only thing you have to say to me at a crucial time like this,” Jongdae whines.

“And I can’t believe you keep on missing the opportunity when it’s already there right in front of you,” Baekhyun bluntly responds. “You need to do things for yourself, too, Jongdae. We’ll always be here to help you out, you know that, but you can’t honestly expect us to make things happen for you all the time.”

Jongdae is well aware of that, of course. He knows Baekhyun means well - he always does, no matter how candid he gets with his words sometimes - but hearing it straight out of Baekhyun’s mouth doesn’t make the truth hurt any less.

“I knew I should’ve talked to Kyungsoo about this instead,” he mumbles.

Baekhyun scoffs. “The only thing Kyungsoo will give you is a judging stare while he calls you ten variations of the word stupid. You should be glad I even gave you advice in the first place.”

Jongdae grimaces. It’s really not the kind of advice he’s looking for but, at this point, Jongdae thinks he’ll just take whatever he can get.

*

It’s at his friends’ next shitty suggestion to drink the night away (at a different club this time!) does Jongdae see Junmyeon again. He doesn’t even know why he allowed himself to be roped to another one of their impromptu drinking sprees again, but Jongdae thinks it probably won’t hurt to indulge his friends and their ridiculous idea of a “good time” every now and then. He does need to go out and celebrate his massive improvement in his Biology grade, anyway.

He’s in the middle of trying to down his apple cider in one go when Junmyeon suddenly slips into the vacant barstool next to him. “You look like you need some company.”

Jongdae almost spits his drink when he hears the familiar voice and realizes that it is, indeed, Junmyeon who just spoke to him. “I didn’t know you also frequent these kinds of places, hyung.” It’s true; Jongdae has just always seen Junmyeon as the type who would rather spend his time holed up in his room studying than go out and get intoxicated on a nice Friday evening.

Speaking of intoxicated-

“Wait. Are you drunk, hyung?” Jongdae worriedly asks. It’s not very visible in dim lighting but Jongdae still finds what he’s looking for: Junmyeon’s flushed cheeks, his loose grin, eyes a little too bright than usual.

Junmyeon giggles. “Ah, just a little tipsy, I guess. Luhan kept giving me all these colorful drinks for the past hour and just won’t take no for answer.”

Jongdae groans. He should’ve known his friends were up to no good again when they coaxed him to go out tonight. And, apparently, Luhan was in on the plan, too. Jongdae swears he’s really going to end up killing all of them if they’re thinking of doing something humiliating like that body shot last time.

“It’s all good, though,” Junmyeon says. “I think I needed the alcohol to calm my nerves a little bit.”

Jongdae looks at him confusion. “Why? Is something up tonight?”

“Ah, well…” Junmyeon trails off. He looks a little hesitant, mouth momentarily pursed as though he’s trying to figure out if he should say anything at all. Jongdae thinks he looks super cute. “I don’t think you know but Luhan and Baekhyun have been taking bets on who’s going to take it in the ass between the two of us.”

What.

Jongdae isn’t sure if he’s really heard it right so he asks, “Um. Excuse me, what?”

Junmyeon waves his hand and even that simple action looks a little more uncoordinated than usual. “Long story short - they were pretty convinced that we’ll end up sleeping together at some point,” Junmyeon explains, as though that can thoroughly clear the confusion in Jongdae’s head. (It doesn’t. If anything, it only makes Jongdae even more baffled with what’s happening right now.)

Jongdae looks at him then, really looks at Junmyeon in hopes of discovering any kind of telltale sign that he’s even the slightest bit appalled with the idea. Surprisingly, Jongdae doesn’t find anything. “And you’re okay with that? I mean-you don’t mind sleeping with me?” And then as though belatedly realizing what he’d just asked, Jongdae quickly adds, “I mean. Hypothetically, of course.”

“Why would I?” Junmyeon responds, one corner of his mouth pulling up into a smirk. “I was actually hoping they were right about that.”

Well. That’s more than enough of an answer for Jongdae.

Not too far from where they’re sitting, Jongdae can spot Luhan and Baekhyun unabashedly staring in their direction, both their lips curved into a knowing smile. Jongdae makes sure to give them the finger but the rude gesture does nothing to stop them from guffawing out loud like a bunch of silly drunks.

Oh. They’re so dead.

“Let’s go, hyung,” Jongdae says. He grabs Junmyeon by the wrist and starts to pull him towards the door, deliberately ignoring the catcalls and whistles that their idiotic friends are making at the very moment.

“Wait-” Junmyeon tries his hardest to keep up but the alcohol in his system makes it difficult for him to actually walk without tripping on his own feet after every few steps or so. Still, the tight grip of Jongdae’s fingers around his wrist manages to keep him almost steady. “Where are we going?”

Jongdae turns his head to look at Junmyeon and tries not to sound too excited as he answers, “We’re going to find out the answer to that bet.”

They end up at Jongdae’s dorm, only because it’s a little closer to the club where they were at minutes ago. Jongdae would’ve honestly preferred to do this in Junmyeon’s room, possibly soil every single clean bed sheet Junmyeon has as they fuck on his bed (it’s all Jongdae could think about ever since Junmyeon had insisted that they continue their tutorial sessions in his room, but who’s surprised?) but Jongdae’s dick is apparently a little terrible fucker who doesn’t have as much patience as its owner so Jongdae supposes this will have to do (for now). Also, Baekhyun is Jongdae’s roommate so he can be sure no one else can come barreling through the door while they’re in the middle of their own business.

Jongdae is pushed right up against the door as soon as it closes, and the force has him almost wheezing out loud, if not for Junmyeon’s mouth swallowing whatever sound falls from his lips. The kiss that follows is a little messy - too much tongue and teeth clacking together, not exactly the kind of kiss Jongdae had imagined as his first with Junmyeon - but it feels like weeks of pent-up sexual frustration which, in Jongdae’s hazy mind, makes sense because that’s exactly what it is.

“Junmyeon,” Jongdae gasps, head automatically tipping back as soon as Junmyeon’s mouth parades a wet trail across his throat. Junmyeon starts sucking a bruising mark close to Jongdae’s Adam’s apple and all Jongdae can do is grasp tightly at Junmyeon’s shirt just to keep him even closer. “How long have you known about this bet?”

“Just a few days ago,” Junmyeon breathily answers, as though he’s the one getting marked with teeth and tongue and not the other way around. “I overheard Luhan talking on the phone with Baekhyun about some kind of bet. Didn’t hesitate to confront him about it.”

The image of Junmyeon demanding Luhan for an answer, all insistent and authoritative, that briefly flits through his mind gets Jongdae so hot, it’s ridiculous.

It’s so ridiculous, in fact, that Jongdae finds himself pushing away from the door so they can blindly make their way into the darkness of his door room. He boldly tugs Junmyeon closer by his belt loop as soon as they stumble on the bed, grinding against him to let Junmyeon know how much Jongdae wants this, wants him. The low, breathless sound that Junmyeon makes has Jongdae doing it again and again and again, very much enamored and addicted at how perfectly their hips fit together.

Junmyeon’s hands are under his shirt, his fingers skittering over Jongdae’s ribs. His touch leaves a burning trail across Jongdae’s skin that it takes him a huge amount of effort just to ask, “Who do you think will win?”

“Oh, Luhan definitely will,” Junmyeon answers not a second longer. Jongdae can feel the curve of Junmyeon’s smirk against his skin. “Because I’ll be the one fucking you tonight.”

Well, fuck, if that isn’t just the hottest thing that Jongdae has heard in a while.

Their clothes can’t come off fast enough after that. Junmyeon takes a brief moment to look at Jongdae in all his naked glory, gaze so intense that Jongdae thinks he would’ve easily melted right there and then on the bed if Junmyeon wouldn’t stop staring at him. And then he leans down, just enough to press a gentle kiss on his lips, and says, “You’re so beautiful, Jongdae.”

Jongdae can’t help the giddy laugh that escapes his lips after that. Junmyeon is so ridiculously cheesy, it makes Jongdae want to pull him even closer, slot their mouths together so Junmyeon can stop blabbering even sillier stuff that can potentially make Jongdae burst with so much happiness.

So he does just that.

“You need to stop talking,” Jongdae manages to whisper before he kisses the hell out of Joonmyun again.

The whole situation feels so, so unreal that Jongdae is still half-expecting to wake up and find all of these just a figment of his very creative imagination. When a slick finger starts probing his entrance, however, his vision almost going blurry from the sudden sensation, Jongdae just finds himself fervently wishing that this is anything but a dream.

“Are you okay?” Junmyeon asks before pressing a quick kiss to the inside of Jongdae’s knee. Jongdae opens his eyes (when did he even close them?) and sees Junmyeon staring up at his body, a worried crease on his forehead.

“Yeah.” Jongdae lets out a shuddering sigh, body squirming when the tips of Junmyeon’s fingertips start pressing against his sensitive insides. “I’m fine. Just-another one.”

Junmyeon isn’t one to refuse Jongdae’s whims, and it isn’t long before he adds a second finger, stretching Jongdae even more. When Junmyeon’s fingers accidentally brush against his prostrate, Jongdae doesn’t even stop himself from moaning out long and loud because, fuck, that feels so good.

He makes sure to do it again, fingers now pressing even harder against Jongdae’s prostate, unmerciful and relentless. Jongdae can’t do anything else but sob and writhe, unable to handle it anymore. “Junmyeon-stop. Just. I can’t. Please, please, fuck me-”

Junmyeon withdraws his fingers and, for a moment, Jongdae feels inexplicably empty. The feeling doesn’t last long, though - Junmyeon starts pushing in, the head of his cock nudging against his entrance a few times, and Jongdae lets out a whimper as Junmyeon finally sinks in.

Junmyeon slides slowly into Jongdae until he’s fully seated inside. It doesn’t take long before the feeling of fullness spreads to the rest of Jongdae’s body and he nearly chokes until his brain reminds him to breathe. When Junmyeon starts to move, slow and experimental thrusts at first and then quickly turning into hard, stabbing jabs that lift Jongdae’s hips right off the bed as he pleas for more, Jongdae realizes that nothing else matters at this moment.

Nothing but the tight hold of Junmyeon’s fingers on his hips, the perfect fit of Junmyeon’s mouth against his, the seamless slide of their bodies together. Jongdae's drenched in sweat, hair matted to his forehead, and he can feel every beat of his heart everywhere. Junmyeon continues to thrust in and out of him, without even the slightest intention of stopping until Jongdae reaches his peak.

And, eventually, he does - with one final thrust, Jongdae digs his nails into Junmyeon’s shoulders and comes hard, writhing and groaning and making a mess all over his stomach. Junmyeon, on the other hand, grips at Jongdae’s thighs hard enough to bruise, and holds him there, flush against his hips as he rocks ever so slightly and rides out his own orgasm buried deep inside Jongdae.

“That’s just-wow,” Jongdae breathes out. He doesn’t really have any words to describe how pleasantly delirious he feels at this moment, but judging by the amused yet incredibly fond look on Junmyeon’s face as he gazes down at Jongdae, he knows Junmyeon understands, anyway.

Junmyeon then laughs breathlessly and noses against the side of Jongdae’s throat, leaving open-mouthed kisses against his skin. “I take it that I did well?”

“Well?” Jongdae repeats, almost incredulous. “You were fucking amazing, Junmyeon. I could literally let you fuck me all day on this bed and I wouldn’t mind.”

Junmyeon chuckles at him again and the soft sound tugs Jongdae’s lips into a very satiated smile. “So generous with your compliments today.”

Jongdae just hums and holds Junmyeon even closer to him, suddenly feeling tired and well-spent after a round of sex. It’s silent for a while, save for their shallow breathing and the unbelievably loud thumping of Jongdae’s heart in his ears.

And then Jongdae is ruining the moment with his big mouth, voicing out the question that just decided to appear in the forefront of his mind, “This isn’t just a one-time thing, is it?”

“I was hoping it’s not,” Junmyeon answers and Jongdae finds himself releasing the breath he didn’t even realize he was holding. “Actually, I would like to take you out on date sometime, if you don’t mind?”

Jongdae laughs, all light and tinkling. He won’t admit it but Junmyeon’s invitation has his toes curling in dizzying pleasure. He feels like a silly school girl with a crush again. “We’re totally doing this backwards, aren’t we?”

“Mmm. But it doesn’t really matter, does it? As long as I still get to have you in the end,” Junmyeon answers, and the dazzling smile he has on his face has Jongdae falling even more helplessly in love with him.

Jongdae buries his face in Junmyeon’s shoulder, feeling his face quickly turning hot and red from secondhand embarrassment. “Mr. Choi should put you in detention for saying awful things like that.”

“I don’t mind,” Junmyeon whispers hotly against the shell of his ear, “because I’m pretty sure he’ll put you in detention with me if he heard the things you were saying earlier.”

Jongdae groans. “Shut up.”

(But the truth is, Jongdae thinks he won’t mind that, either.)
