SAVE ROE!!!!!!!!!!

Jul 20, 2005 23:18

I'm sure that everyone knows about O'connor stepping down from the supreme court...but what not many people seem to know is that the next person to be elected to the court has the power in his/her hands to decide what happens to the decision made in 1973 with Roe vs. Wade

1973- Roe was decided..seven justices supported the woman's right to choose

1992- Planned Parenthood of Southeastern vs. casey: at this point it was only 5 judges who supported the womans right to choose

2000- Stenberg vs. Carhart: The court split 5 to 4  with only 5 justices putting the womans health first.

Now that O'connor has stepped down the current justices are split 4 to 4, meaning that the next person who is elected holds the future of womens health in his/her hands. Imagine yourself 6 months or 5 years from now you're raped, the condom breaks..whatever for some reason you CAN'T support a baby, you have no choice but to have it OR you go underground like women used to..using coat hangers against the walls of there uterus. LET'S NOT GO BACKWARDS IN TIME WHEN IT COMES TO WOMENS RIGHTS!!! The generations before us spent endless amount of time, energy, sweat and tears to get us to where we are today, don't disrespect there efforts by going backwards in time.

How YOU Can help

Bush has nominated John Roberts, it is now the senators job to ask him questions about things and decide of he meets the peoples needs.

Contact your senator and let him/her know that womens rights are important to you and that its important that John Roberts shows adequate respect to womens rights before being elected to supreme court for life.

For more information go to plannedparenthood.com, if you're not comfortable calling your senator all you have to do is sign a letter that they have already written and they will send it to him/her
P.S. if you dissagree with abortion or whatever that's fine, and you're entitled to your opinion, but please don't leave a hate comment, this entry wasn't aimed to offend anyone, simply to inform.
