Dr Machiko Lee, geneticist for the Inari Institute, stepped into her office to hang up her white coat and fix her hair. An important man was coming today to stay on board for the rest of their experiments. Her job was to make sure he was well looked after and completely at ease with their facial operations which covered up those done under the surface. She sighed as she reached the mirror, finding the dark lines under her eyes disconcerting. Marcus Harmon was going to be impressed--he had to be or the Unified Nations would take their funding from the campus and deposit into more lucrative business like the other biological weapons being produced on the south island. If Mr Harmon exposed their hidden agenda, the other campus would be on notice and the plan would fail. Akio was depending on her...
Machiko dabbed some make-up on her face to cover her weary lines. Staying late at the institute was taking a toll on her life--and the life of her daughter, Miho. But it was necessary. She didn't want her girl growing up in a place like the world had become. She leant forward, retrieving the photograph of the two of them together; smiling, she replaced it on the counter.
She went to the door and slipped into a pair of black pumps before heading past several lab hands in the corridor. A sudden sense of corporate-ness crossed her slim features. All business, no familiarity. She didn't have anything to win by pretending she was a struggling scientist. As she came to the lobby where she spotted him. Taking a deep breath, she approached him and extended her hand.
"Marcus Harmon," Machiko smiled and took his hand, shaking it, "I'm Dr Machiko Lee."
