CHIEF WEBBER
Finally Callie had been stabilized, her stomach had been pumped and all the checks had been done and now she lay in the ER. I headed towards the family room. As soon as I opened the door Erica stood up. I did not look forward to telling her she couldn’t see Callie. I explained what was wrong with Callie, she nodded. Then came the question I dreaded to hear. “I want to see her? Where is she?” I looked at her, imagining that she was just any other family member I had to ban from the room. “I’m sorry Erica but you can’t see her.” I saw shock; confusion and anger enter her features. “What? Why not.” “I’m sorry but she won’t let you in.” I saw that she went into shock. I knew that she was exhausted, it was easy to tell. Unfortunately though I saw her eyes roll back and she passed out. I caught her before she hit the ground, calling for help, George O’Malley came rushing in. I picked her up and put her on a bed. I quickly hooked her up to an IV and put fluids into her. She was dehydrated and clearly hadn’t drunk anything since Callie had been admitted. I believed that she fainted from stress and exhaustion and dehydration. Minutes later she came too and demanded to get up. She screamed and pushed us away demanding to see Callie we had to threaten to sedate her. Her blood pressure was through the roof but she calmed down and we were able to go without sedating her. She demanded a portable drip so she could go see Callie. “I, I’m sorry but you know you she won’t see her.” “Fine but I still want that portable IV.” I nodded my head.
I knew that she was going to see Callie if it was the last thing she did. There was no point trying to argue with her. If Erica was anything, she sure as hell was determined.
I brought her the IV and instructed her to sleep even though I knew she wouldn’t take what I said to heart. She nodded and I left.
MARK
I was relieved when I heard that Callie had asked for me. I’d already called her parents and to say they were surprised was an understatement. They were not happy but they were more worried. They told me that they’d be here in a few hours.
I headed straight to Callie’s room. On the way I ran into Izzie who informed me that Erica had just been admitted as a patient. I was shocked but I knew that I had to check on Callie first. When I finally entered Callie’s room she was crying quietly too herself, I walked over to her and she didn’t try to wipe her tears. “I, I, I am such a burden. This is my fault. I, I shouldn’t be here. I want to go home.” I took her in my arms as she cried. “Shh, Cal. You’ll be out of here soon. You’re parents will be here soon.” She immediately went tense in my arms and her voice was angry. “You called my parents? Please tell me you didn’t.” To say that I was confused was an understatement. “Of course I did Cal, you almost died on us today.” She started to cry and scream. “NO, NO, no, no, no.” Her screams turned into sobs. “They, they’ll take me home. I, I. After last time they’ll want me to go home. I don’t want to go to Spain. Seattle’s my home.”
I held her in my arms while she cried on my chest. “Shhh, Cal. It’s okay. Everything will be fine.” She eventually fell asleep in my arms. I shifted so that I could get up. She sighed but didn’t wake up as I climbed of the bed where I had been comforting her. After Callie had only been asleep for a matter of minutes my thoughts went to Erica. I had no idea why she had been admitted. She had seemed fine, maybe a little tired but fine.
As I was lost in my thoughts. I heard the door swing open and Erica walked in slowly dragging an IV behind her. I knew that I needed to speak quietly. I tried to drag her out of the room but she was determined to see Callie. I quickly walked her out of the room. “I want to see her.” She demanded.
ERICA
He just sighed. “You cant. She doesn’t want to see you.” I could tell that she was tired, stressed and defeated. “I just need to explain.” Mark sighed. “I just got her to sleep can it wait.” “Fine, but I’m waiting in her room.” “You could get fired. She banned you.” “I don’t care. I, I just need to see her. Make her understand.” “Erica, you were admitted. Why don’t you go back to your room and I’ll get you when she wakes up.” I stood tall and gave him the Hahn Death Stare. “No, I am waiting in there with her.” I pointed to Callie’s room. He took a deep breathe. “You can’t stay in there.”
I tried to think of a loop hole a way that I could go into that room without being physically removed but I couldn’t, there wasn’t. Not until she woke up let me in, if she let me in at all. “Fine but I want you in my room as soon as she wakes up.” A smirk played on his lips. “Here I was thinking you would never say that.” I sent him my death glare again as I turned and stalked away.
