Writer's Block: On the Airwaves
It's kind of a funny question to ask because every day i always complain about popular radio today. And i always go on to talk about what i would if i had a my own radio station.
I want to get rid of censorship. I don't really see the point in it. I mean what are we trying to shelter ourselves from? Words are words, I'm not going to say that words don't mean anything because many times they do. But I do believe that certain songs shouldn't be censored because it takes away from the actual song itself. I'm not talking about songs that use "bad words" excessively just for the sake of it.
And this whole censorship thing isn't just on radio, but everywhere.
I remember i saw My Chemical Romance's music video "Teenagers" on MTV one day and it seemed the entire chorus was censored. And honestly there's like two small verses and then the last minute of the song is just that repeated chorus.
Why even bother to play something that you can literally only hear just half of?
Gerard Way singing about how teenagers scare the living shit out of him is not exactly threatening, and what exactly was the censorship committee, people , who ever the fuck it is that does this,what exactly were they trying to hide? The fact that teenagers these days are kinda crazy, with the cliques, and underage shit they do, the delinquents?[ teenagers were always like that , and it's not exactly a secret so...?]
Although it's not even curse words that are being censored, but anything that suggests or imply something "wrong" or "dangerous". The things censored in "Teenagers" were words like "gun", "drugs", "shit".
[Wow, this turned into a rant and i'm going to cut it off because i'm not in the mood of getting my fingers to cramp. And i don't know maybe some people would call me too young or naive because of the whole censorship thing but i really think that it's completely unnecessary. Not just in music but on television too. Can't imply certain things, can't joke about certain things. But i know that is mainly so no offense can be taken about certain issues. That isn't what i'm talking about. I just don't like the fact people can't say FUCK on tv. It just seems like we're trying too hard to shelter the "young and innocent" from things like "bad words", drugs, alcohol, and sex. By not talking about it and just hiding things like that from kids will only make ti worse when they become aware of it. BUT, that my take on it......]
Anyway.....
the point is that if i had my own radio station i would play music, uncensored hopefully, and try my hardest to have live session with artists, local names, big names. I'd want to play all kinds of music, GOOD music, and i wouldn't have music on a loop. the most demanded songs just playing every hour on the hour. I mean have a little variety right? Why not play some local bands/singers who're trying to get some attention?
As to what my little radio program would be called Im not sure.... haha haven't thought that far.
