We can't always live life the way we want to, but when we try our best we'll be sure to obtain happiness somewhere along the way.
Jonghyun was always happy being together with Minho. They went out together, just eating in a restaurant or going to the movies. Sometimes when Jonghyun was in a good mood they would go to a soccer match Minho really wanted to see live. Kissing when they appeared on the screen, earning whistles from those around them. They were perfectly comfortable around each other and enjoyed all their moments together. So much they decided to move in an apartment with the two of them.
Jonghyun didn't exactly know where it went wrong, but as soon as they were together almost 24/7, his life became dull. Annoyance as Minho constantly changed the channel to soccer games when he wanted to watch his variety shows, or when he wanted to go for an early morning jog with Jonghyun. "Who goes jogging at 5.30 in the morning?!"
It started not long after when Jonghyun didn't went straight home after work, but went to an old café near his place, just drinking there and enjoying the music the live band was playing. The makeshift dance floor filled with moving bodies and that's where this boy caught his interest. He never made a move though, perfectly fine with just watching him and reminding himself Minho was waiting for him at home.
Two weeks later the boy tapped him on the shoulder and asked what his name was. He gave it without much thought and earned a name in return. "Taemin." It rolled nicely off his tongue and he found himself asking the boy if they should go to a real club, with more bodies pressed up against them and better music to dance to. Taemin almost agreed immediately and Jonghyun pulled out his phone. "Sorry, some trouble at work. Don't stay up for me. Love." He put his phone back in his pocket and followed the boy who said he knew a great club not far from there.
Three weeks it had been since he danced with the boy, but he never saw him again. Also he had no way off contacting him, since they didn't exchange numbers or something similar to that. He still went to the café, sometimes to the club, always sending messages to Minho he wasn't able to come home early. Minho never questioned him about it in the mornings. Just going along with his own routine, soccer practice at 11.00 in the morning.
The next morning he asked Jonghyun to come with him and watch his practice, since they barely did anything together anymore. His guilt towards Minho made him agree and he found himself seated on the sideline, watching Minho's tall figure move swiftly across the field, cheering him on when he scored a goal. Minho would make a V-sign and smile widely at him and Jonghyun would feel those flutters in his stomach when he did so.
When the whistle sounded inclining the training was over, Jonghyun made his way to Minho and slung an arm around his waist. They walked back to the benches when the next group came running onto the field and Jonghyun caught sight of a familiar boy among the others. He swallowed when Taemin glanced at them, before running his laps around the field.
Jonghyun leaned up to place a kiss on the corner of Minho's mouth, mostly to rid himself off this guilty feeling, but Minho stopped him. "Not around here with everyone watching." And Jonghyun didn’t know why, they never had been awkward with that before. If he only noticed Minho's eyes following Taemin around.
Two days later he met Taemin again in the club. The boy didn't mention anything about him and Minho but instead slurred his words together (maybe he had drunk a bit too much) and ended up kissing Jonghyun on his mouth. "Meet me at the club tomorrow." The boy whispered against his lips and Jonghyun could only nod dumbfounded when he was left there on the dance floor.
He came home that night, Minho sleeping soundly in their bed, nothing more than his boxers on. Jonghyun sighed, raked a hand through his hair before he suppressed the guilt rising. He slipped in next to Minho and lay closer to him, almost happy when two arms circled his waist, but not quite. He realized he preferred to hold a certain boy now and it made him break out in cold sweat. What to do?
The club was hot and crowded, even more than normally and Jonghyun couldn't find Taemin anywhere. He sat himself at the bar, but after one drink he thought of going home. Maybe talk to Minho about this, he didn't want to loose him, not when they've been together for so long.
Silently he made his way inside, but froze when he heard mumbled sounds coming from the bedroom. Cautiously he opened the door, his gut saying he didn't want to see this, but his body just moved. This time his breath left him.
On their bed was Minho seated with his back to him, naked, with an all too familiar boy in his lap, equally naked. Taemin locked eyes with him and smirked while he tugged Minho's head to his shoulder and moaned loud throwing his head back when Minho moved up. Jonghyun didn’t know whether to feel devastated to find Minho cheating on him or to feel torn apart because the boy obviously led him on and was with Minho… doing… He shook his head, but couldn't hold in the choked sob, turning Minho's attention to him.
"J-jong…" His eyes were wide before he moved Taemin off of him, "Jong, I…"
"Don't. I get it." He couldn't even sound angry. Wasn't it all his fault? Wasn't he the one who drove them apart, liking another guy, but being left in the end? He had his bag in his hands in no time, shoving clothes and necessities like his notebook into it. Minho's pleas were nothing to him as he continued to collect his stuff. He glanced one last time at Minho, before he turned on his iPod, headphones on his head. Taemin was still smirking at him. It sickened Jonghyun.
"It's my fault, so try to be happy for yourself at least." Jonghyun said, his voice hoarse when he tiptoed one last time to peck Minho on the lips. "Be happy." He slung his bag over his shoulder, the weight maybe a bit too much, but he would manage.
The street was empty and a mild drizzle came down on him and he smiled. He hummed along with the song. "I wonder if Kibum and Jinki have place for a freeloader." He took out his phone, pressed the call button and waited for Kibum to pick up. A string of profanities came from the other end and Jonghyun laughed.
"Hey, it’s me. I'm coming over right now." He hung up to Kibum's muttering and sang along with the songs playing. He skipped up the stairs and pressed the doorbell. Kibum opened the door, slightly puzzled at the wide smile on Jonghyun's face.
"What -" He began.
"It didn't go so well." Jonghyun smiled and Kibum frowned when the corner of Jonghyun's mouth trembled.
"It’s okay to cry, you know."
