"I have a surprise for you."

Taemin stops walking and turns around to Jonghyun, who is puffing out small white balls of air, scarf securely around his neck and hands in his pockets. Taemin can just see Jonghyun's upper lip and the semi-smile pulling at the corners, but more Taemin sees Jonghyun's eyes twinkling.

"Do I have to guess?" Taemin asks through his own scarf, gloves keeping his hands warm. They're standing a few feet apart from each other on the snow white sidewalk. Jonghyun shakes his head in response. Taemin watches as Jonghyun takes something out of his pocket and waves it, now grinning. Taemin is baffled as he recognizes the papers as tickets.

"Where-How?" He stutters, jaw open and Jonghyun laughs, putting the tickets back into his pocket. Jonghyun takes the few steps separating them, feet leaving prints in the freshly fallen snow. He takes Taemin's gloved hands in his own bare ones.

"I thought you would wanted to see that while we are still here." Jonghyun whispers against Taemin's lips, before placing a light kiss upon them.

"But aren't those like, you know, expensive?" Taemin whispers back. Jonghyun hugs Taemin closer.

"Anything for you." Jonghyun replies, leaning in again, but a wolf whistle ruins the moment and Jonghyun scowls. Taemin giggles, waving at a boy around their age, who is watching them with rapt interest, before Jonghyun pulls Taemin away.

Taemin let himself be dragged, but couldn't help but look at the red mill and the entrance underneath it as they pass by it.

---

They have dinner at the hotel. It's warm and cozy, but they both have trouble reading the menu and just point at some of the dishes. Jonghyun keeps talking about how glad he is they finally got a vacation, how happy he is to be in France when Christmas is around the corner, and how pleased he is to have Taemin by his side. Taemin folds his napkin and secretively slips off his shoes, running his toes up Jonghyun's calves.

"Messieurs." Both Taemin and Jonghyun look up, the waiter setting the plates in front of them, asking them in English if they want a refill of their glasses. They both give a shy "Yes, please" and watch the waiter with awe as he gracefully fills their glasses. By the time they're alone again, Taemin has picked up his fork and is stabbing at his food, Jonghyun hissing he isn't supposed to be doing that.

"But it looks like snails." Taemin counters and Jonghyun leans over to look at Taemin's dish. It indeed looks like snails, so Jonghyun cuts his steak and pricks it onto his fork, holding it out for Taemin to take a bite. A woman beside them makes a disapproving noise and Taemin blushes, ducking his head. This time it's Jonghyun's foot on Taemin's calve and Taemin looks up. The piece of steak is pushing against his lips and Taemin opens his mouth and slides the meat off the fork.

The woman huffs, scrunching her nose, but Jonghyun just gives her a blank stare and turns back to feeding Taemin. They share stories and laugh, at one point Jonghyun has taken Taemin's hand in his own and stares at Taemin's smiling face.

Taemin's expression smoothens out when he sees Jonghyun, who licks his bottom lip slightly before he's suddenly up and next to Taemin. From the corner of his eyes Taemin sees the woman watching them, but then Jonghyun tilts his head back with a hand under his chin and presses his lips to Taemin's. At the coughing Jonghyun pulls Taemin up from his chair and they make their way to their hotel room.

---

Taemin knows they could've gone out that night too, making memories in the heart of Paris, but he likes it here, snuggling closer to a sleeping Jonghyun. The rose petals are still lying on the covers, most of them on the ground by now and the bottle of champagne is half empty. Taemin has his boxer shorts low on his hips and he wonders where Jonghyun's could have gone. Not that it matters when the blankets are covering both of them.

The clock strikes twelve and Taemin is still awake, listening to Jonghyun's sleepy voice singing. It's no surprise when the voice suddenly grows louder and arms encircle Taemin's waist. Jonghyun is pressing kisses against his shoulder.

"It almost feels like a honeymoon." Taemin says, turning in Jonghyun's arms to gaze in those big, brown eyes.

"Does it?" Jonghyun laughs, earning a push to his chest. Taemin is pouting at him. Jonghyun brushes his nose along Taemin's neck at that, humming in satisfaction.

"You're so warm." Jonghyun whispers, pulling Taemin closer to him to have more of that warmth. Taemin grunts in response, reaching to pull Jonghyun's leg over his own before draping his arm over Jonghyun's side. They silently fall asleep like that.

---

The next morning Jonghyun wakes up to light kisses pressed against his temple. He smiles and tightens the hold around Taemin’s waist and moves his head into the crook of Taemin’s neck. He sniffs and Taemin pushes him playfully away.

“You’re not a dog.” He huffs.

“ I could as well have been one.” Jonghyun grins as he licks a stripe up Taemin’s neck to his ear.

“Woof.” Jonghyun grins and Taemin hits his arm, but not hard enough to hurt.

“ That’s gross.” He says, swiping at his neck. Jonghyun doesn’t really care what Taemin thinks of it, his mind is already with the big evening they have up ahead. He turns over and rolls with a loud thud to the floor, standing while rubbing his head. That didn’t he see coming. He glares at Taemin who is trying not to laugh at him, a few suppressed sounds escaping his lips.

“Let’s dress and head downstairs. I want to take you somewhere.” Jonghyun says and Taemin obeys, pulling the sheets with him as he stands. Jonghyun thinks Taemin looks far too edible like that, so he averts his eyes, but they flicker back when Taemin kisses him on his lips.

“Don’t act all innocent now.” It’s a quiet whisper in his ear, but the tone has Jonghyun all heated up. He watches as Taemin slowly walks to the bathroom, a light sway in his steps. Jonghyun never gets enough of that sight.

---

Breakfast is relatively quiet. The food actually looks edible and there are no weird women to sneer at them. When they’re finished, they go up again to their room, pulling on some warm coats to fend off the cold. It has snowed heavily during the night and the snow is high when they finally manage to step out through the hotel doors.

“Where are we going?” Taemin asks with a bit too much excitement in his voice, but Jonghyun smiles, saying it’s a present and doesn’t want to ruin the surprise.

The walk is not that long, but Taemin doesn’t recognize where they are, so he trails behind Jonghyun, their hands gently holding onto each other. Suddenly Jonghyun steers them inside a store and Taemin’s eyes bug out of their caskets when he sees what’s in it.

“Jonghyun!” He says a bit too loud, gaining the attention of the few persons present. Taemin blushes ten shades of red and Jonghyun laughs.

“I thought you liked to try something else?” Jonghyun cups Taemin’s cheek in his left hand, bringing Taemin’s head up so he can look him in the eyes. Taemin slowly nods, holding Jonghyun’s gaze, but his face turns even more red. A sweet voice behind him has Taemin turning around and frown.

A small woman asks him something, but he doesn’t understand her. Not to mention he hasn’t ever learned the French language, but he feels kind of trapped. Behind him, Jonghyun slowly takes over and asks the woman if it’s alright if they speak English. The woman nods, repeating the question.

“Would you like some help?”

Taemin looks her up and down, a bit taken aback such a normal, almost innocent-looking person works here. He swallows and Jonghyun speaks again.

“We would like a costume for him here.” He points his thumb to Taemin, who blushes harder yet again. The woman smiles, before giving Jonghyun her attention back.

“Something particular you like to have?”

Jonghyun grins at that and brushes past Taemin to whisper in the woman’s ear. Taemin doesn’t like the way Jonghyun’s mouth turns almost in a feral grin and his eyes are twinkling. His stomach drops when something in the woman’s eyes sparks too, before she turns and disappears behind some door.

Before Taemin can ask what’s going on, she’s back with a short frilly and soft-coloured dress. His mouth falls open as the woman ushers him to the changing rooms, pulling Jonghyun with her to seat him on the puffy arm chair in front of the changing room Taemin disappeared into.

Taemin looks down at the dress, not believing Jonghyun could do something like that to him, but a defeated sigh rushes past his lips as he starts stripping himself down to his boxers. He turns the dress around five times, pulls one arm through it, but doesn’t get any further as his arm is stuck. He sighs again and peers around the door, calling softly to Jonghyun for help.

Jonghyun is fast on his feet when he hears Taemin’s little call for help. He pushes into the changing room and zips the dress open. Taemin watches Jonghyun silently work, amazed he even knows how to put on a dress. Taemin lifts his hands and it helps Jonghyun in slipping the dress over his head and pull it down over his slim frame. It fits perfectly, the bouncy material making it look like he has at least five ruffled skirts underneath. The top fits like a glove, the zipper pulled up on his back. Jonghyun whistles low, before he turns and accepts the mask from the woman putting it over Taemin’s eyes.

“What is this for anyways?” Taemin’s curiosity gets the better of him and Jonghyun smiles.

“It’s for at home, or you can use it now, but I honestly think it would be funny to turn up like this at the dorm.” Jonghyun’s eyes glint with mischief and Taemin chuckles.

“I have to agree on that. And it feels rather nicely too.” Taemin mumbles the last part.

“You’ve made your choice, sir?” The woman inquires and Jonghyun nods, lingering in the changing room, but Taemin pushes him out to get his own clothes back on in peace.

---

“I didn’t think the time would pass that fast.” Jonghyun nods his head in answer.

After they purchased the dress with accessories, it had already been time to go back to the hotel and change into their suits, both not wanting to undress on such a special event.

The walk is quiet for the time, until they arrive at the Moulin Rouge. They’re shown inside where Jonghyun says he has a reservation for two, showing the tickets in his hand. The man nods and a waiter shows them to a table, very close to the stage and both of them have a rather good view of it.

The excitement radiates from Taemin’s being and Jonghyun holds onto the boy’s hand in amused fear of him jumping and hyperventilating at the same time.

“I really can’t believe you did this for me!” Taemin voice bubbles up and Jonghyun leans back in his chair when the waiter serves them their meal. It is fancy and sure of excellent quality, but Taemin is still glad there aren’t any snails or things like that on his plate.

“Are you enjoying it so far?” Jonghyun asks him between the main dish and the dessert, lacing their fingers together on the middle of the table. Taemin grins back at him, squeezing Jonghyun’s fingers for a moment. The rest passes in a comfortable silence.

---

“Ladies and gentlemen! Now I present you, Moulin Rouge!”

Taemin has scooted his chair closer to Jonghyun’s so he’s able to sit next to him as they watch the stage and the curtain goes up. The dancers slowly enter upon the stage, stepping out in the light and Taemin chokes on his drink when he notices the outfits of the dancers, or the lack thereof. Jonghyun snorts beside him, before he doubles over in a loud laugh as Taemin’s face goes five shades of red as the women stretch their hands out above their heads, moving in a way Taemin has only seen snakes do.

After coming down from the initial shock and the extra distraction in the chest area, Taemin watches intently all the fluid moves of the dancers. Even the men with bodies that are too big and too muscular, move with a grace Taemin hadn’t known was possible. After all the influences of different cultures it’s time for another thing, something that Taemin has been anticipating all night. When the music starts his eyes brighten and Jonghyun’s lips curl into a loving smile, happy he made Taemin’s day with this.

Nine ladies enter the stage, wearing short, ruffled dresses with the blue, white and red colours of the French flag, their hairdos styled with large feathers. They kick up their legs, showing their panties, but Taemin has long learned to ignore that tiny part. He’s all ready to join on the stage, his legs almost trembling with the need to move along them, as the nine ladies dance the can-can.

Jonghyun’s hand on his leg calms him and Taemin slumps back against Jonghyun to lean his head on his shoulder as he keeps his eyes focused on those women, doing the thing they love to do the most. It makes Taemin want to try just as hard and he’s sure Jonghyun wants to try it too. Only the best come here, but who said they couldn’t become them one day?

Fingers weave through the long hair at the back of his head and Taemin moves into the touch, liking the way Jonghyun’s fingertips gently massage the scalp.

---

“I’m so tired.” Taemin falls down onto their bed in their hotel room. It only becomes evident just how much he’s tired, because he can barely keep his eyes open. That had been the best day ever, and Taemin was secretly glad he got to spend it with only Jonghyun as his companion.

The bed dips under extra weight and Taemin rolls over to allow Jonghyun space as he crawls in next to Taemin. A hand curls around his hipbone and in response Taemin pushes himself closer to Jonghyun, their breaths mingling between them.

“Thank you.” Taemin whispers, his eyes locked on Jonghyun’s as he leans in and kisses him deeply. They share some sweet kisses under the covers, and cuddle close together. Taemin feels himself slipping, and his eyes close as his breath evens out. He barely registers the press of lips against his forehead and the soft words spoken into his ear.

“Merry Christmas, Taemin.”
