The sky falls down on him. He suffocates, blocking the shards raining down on him. The blood on his hands is the result of attempting to get away. Freedom is what he wants to obtain. Futile efforts harm him in more way than one.
After a year he breaks down. He reaches for the stars in heaven, singing heartbroken songs. The stars twinkle with the first and last high note, but nothing happens. Nothing ever happens. The wind blowing from the heavens carries his voice away and he can't speak anymore. Singing is something that never occurs again.
He always was his entire universe. The universe he could never get enough of. One year was all it took to get his happiness to drown in the miserable feeling of being trapped. He's chained to the core and he knows it. It doesn't stop him from fleeing. The chains are too short, too tight and every time he gets pulled in by the voice of the heavens.
He sinks down, the water pouring from the broken sky. He believes it is crying for him. He lets the rain drench his body, cold seeping through his bones and he feels alive for the first time. Breathing in water has never been his strong point. He tries nonetheless.
After three years of anguish his downfall arrives. The cold is replaced by warmth and the clouds break for sunshine. It becomes his utmost favourite memory. The smile on his face is real, not the fake he had portrayed all this time. It feels like his heart is beating again and for the first time when he reaches out to the sky, he actually goes up there.
-- Beep. Beep. -- The machine goes dead, the plug is pulled out. The crying figure beside the bed knows it couldn't have been more suffocating.
