Title: You Don't Need A Bouquet Of Flowers To Mourn For Me・Part I
Rating: T
Summary: AU For six years, Kamui had some to no contact with the outside world.
Disclaimer: I don't own the characters, the usual.

Kamui woke up to the sound of birds chirping and the wind flowing through the chimes his mother had bought some time ago. It’s not everyday that Kamui wakes up this early to enjoy the sounds of the morning. Usually, he wakes up around eleven in the afternoon, sometimes even later. He wouldn’t call himself lazy since he just reasoned that sleeping is better than being in reality anyway. Even if he woke up early, he would always stay in bed and wait until sleep overcame him again. But today was different. Today was the day he would return back to school after having been home schooled for six years.

For six years, Kamui had some to no contact with the outside world. Sure, he would go grocery shopping with his mother or go return overdue movies with her, but he never really found the need to make friends with other people. His mother was the only person he could really trust, so she was the only person he would only talk with. For six years, his mother taught him everything he needed to know, paying attention to his special needs. Although he never really found the need to know math, literature, and every other subject, he liked hearing the voice of his mother. Her voice soothed him and comforted him through anything, even the horrible dreams he had sometimes.

“Kamui, are you up yet? Remember, you start school today!” The sound of his mother’s voice passed through his door, sounding a bit excited. She was glad he decided to go back to school. Not because she tired of teaching him, but because she wanted him to live as normally as any other teen his age would.

Normal. What exactly IS normal?

“I’m up,” and with that, he pulled off the covers and proceeded towards his bathroom.

One. Two. Three. Four. Five. Six. Seven. Eight. Nine.

He hurried and used the bathroom, brushed his teeth, and went back into his room, walking towards the door.

“Mother, what am I wearing? Do you have the uniform I need?” He walked towards the hallway, heading towards her room, hand sliding against the wall.

One. Two. Three. Four. Five. Six. Seven. Eight. Nine. Ten. Eleven. Twelve.

Once he arrived at her door, he was greeted with his mother leading him towards her bed, where his uniform laid, nicely ironed.

“Your clothes are on my bed, Kamui. I just finished ironing them for you,” she instructed, her hands wrapping around his face, “I laid them out next to each other, one by one, alright? That way it’s easier for you to distinguish them.” She kissed his forehead and ruffled his hair, earning a quick ‘hey!’ from her son. “If you need any help, I’ll be downstairs making you breakfast, okay?”

“Thank you, mother. I’ll be down soon.” The sound of her footsteps faded as she made her way downstairs.

Kamui laid his hands against the bed, feeling for his clothes. He found the shirt first, followed by pants, socks, and a tie. The tie he had trouble with and after a few attempts, he gave up, reminding himself to ask his mother to tie it for him before he left for school. He walked out of her room, monitoring his steps, careful to feel for the stairs.

There are fifteen steps on the stairs, he reminded himself.

Once he was reached the bottom of the stairs, the smell of eggs and bacon reached his nose.

“I decided to make a western-style breakfast for you this morning since it’s a special day for you!” His mother guided him to the table, where she helped his hands trace over his fork, knife, and plate. “Careful, since the food is going to be really hot, Kamui. I can’t have you burning yourself, especially before school.”

“Geez, mother. That was only one time. No need to keep bringing it up,” Kamui joked, beginning to start on his breakfast.

“I can’t help worrying about you, Kamui...” Tohru trailed off, looking at her son while he ate. She hated the fact that Kamui had a big challenge in his life already. She sometimes wondered how Kamui would be if that day never happened. Would he have been normal? Would he have been in a relationship, like most teenagers his age? Tohru shook her head, scolding herself as she did. How can she say that about her sweet, beloved son? Things happen for a reason and she knew Kamui would be able to overcome his disability over time. She knew Kamui was strong enough to do so.

“You’re awfully quiet this morning, Shirou-san,” Kamui’s voice interrupted Tohru’s thoughts. She then realized what she had just been called.

Punching her son lightly on his shoulder, she chuckled. “Don’t you Shirou-san me, mister. Hurry up and finish so we can get to your school early. That way, you can take your time memorizing the way there.” Kamui nodded and drank the last of his orange juice.

“Mother, can you do this for me?” Kamui held up his tie, blushing as he did so.

“Of course.” She took the tie and began putting it around his collar. Her son was so adorable sometimes and she forgets how he hates asking for help. One day, he wasn’t going to need her anymore and Tohru dreaded for that day to come. She always wanted for Kamui to need her. But she knew one day, he was going to fall in love and be taken from her. She needed to teach her son how to be more independent. “There, all done. Now go put on your shoes while I wash the dishes. I made sure there’s nothing that would be in your way, but still be careful.” She studied him for a few minutes as he made his way to the entrance, where all the shoes were. “The black ones are the ones on the far left.” She sighed and turned around and picked up the now empty plate. She quickly finished washing it and dried her hands, making her way to Kamui, who was busy trying to tie his shoes. “Ready?”

“Un, ready!” Kamui faced her, his hand lacing with hers.

“Did you want your cane today, or are you okay with someone showing you around? I called the school and they have someone that will take care of you while you’re there.” Tohru knew Kamui hated being helped by others, but she also knew that he hated using his cane.

He hesitated for a moment, considering the outcomes. “Umm....I’ll leave my cane here for today. I’ll take it tomorrow if I don’t like the person.” This made Tohru laugh, shaking her head at her son’s honesty.

“Sure thing, honey. Let’s start heading to school. Make sure to memorize the way just in case I can’t take you to school, okay?”

“ ‘kay.” And with that, the pair headed outside.

The sound of cars, people, and music filled Kamui’s ears as he walked beside his mother, holding her arm. “Are we almost there, mother?” He hated being on a busy street. It made him feel claustrophobic in a way. There was just so many people. So much noise. So much of everything.

“Yes, we are almost there, sweetie. Now remember, be nice. I don’t need another incident like when you decided to punch that poor kid..” She saw her son blush as she reminded him.

“He deserved it! He kept asking me stupid questions...” He reasoned.

“Kamui, he was only five years old. I doubt he knew what he was asking,” Tohru scolded him.

“But he kept asking me ‘how many fingers am I holding’....I think that can count as a stupid question...” Kamui remembered how mad he had gotten at that kid. He gave the poor kid a bruised nose and he remembered how much his mother had to apologize to the kid’s parents for him.

“Kamui, please behave.” She sighed, shaking her head. “Promise me?”

Kamui sighed as well. “Promise,” he whispered loud enough for his mother to hear.

“Good,” She smiled. “Anyways, we’re here. Where exactly is the office, I wonder...”

Kamui’s ears were filled with sounds of girls giggling and guys talking about video games. He continued walking with his mother and felt the ground become harder, as if they were inside a building.

“Aha! Found it.” And with that, she opened the door, leading Kamui inside.

“Welcome to Clamp Gakuen! How can I help you?! OH! You must be the new student!! I’ve been waiting here at the office for you! My name is Keiichi Segawa, but can just call me Keiichi!” The first few things that crossed Kamui’s mind were: How annoying. Ow, my ears....Why am I here again?

“Hi” was all that Kamui managed to bring himself to say, earning an elbow from his mother.

“Segawa-san! Thank you so much for volunteering to help Kamui. He really appreciates it, I’m sure.” She turned to Kamui, lifting his chin up to make sure he was listening. “I hope you have a great day, sweetie. I made a bento for you so you can eat it during lunch.” She gave him the bento wrapped up in a huge cloth so it could be carried by the knot. She hugged him, earning a protest from her son. “Behave.” And with that, she exited, glancing back once to look at her son, wishing him luck.

“Bye mother..” He waved to her, stopping when he heard the door shut.

“It’s very nice to meet you! If I remember correctly, your name must be Kamui Shirou, right? It’s a very pretty name! I like it! Anyways, you were lucky enough to be scheduled in the same classes as me, so I will guide you throughout the entire day! Let’s be friends!” Keiichi grabbed Kamui’s hand, leading them to their first class. “If we don’t hurry, we’ll be late--” The bell rang just as they turned to the hallway that will lead them to their class. “Oh, no! Well, we better hurry since you have to introduce youself to the class!” Kamui wondered if this guy could ever shut up. He felt Keiichi stop and open a door. “Sorry we’re late! I brought with me the new student!”

“Ah, the new student...Please introduce yourself to the class.” The teacher mentioned for Kamui to step towards the board to write his name. “Well?” He asked after Kamui failed to come forward.

“Oh, Sensei...He, um...He can’t...uhh..” For once, Keiichi didn’t know what to say.

“Well, what? New student, come foward to write your name on the board, please.”

Kamui sighed. I guess it’s now or never... “Could you please hand me the chalk? I’m blind so I can’t see where it is.” This earned a few gasps from what he could tell were the students.

“Oh..O-of course! Here you are.” The teacher handing him the chalk, making sure it was secure in Kamui’s hand.

“Thank you.” He turned around and felt for the board, writing his name slowly.

司狼・神威

Shirou, Kamui

Once he was done, he turned around hoping he was facing the class. “My name is Kamui Shirou. Nice to meet you.”

“Great! Now, Segawa-san, please escort Shirou-san to the seat next to yours since it’s empty.” Keiichi nodded, grabbing Kamui’s hand as he led him towards the back of the class. “Now, class, turn your books to page 134....” Kamui tunned out once he felt Keiichi make a stop.

“Here you go, Shirou-kun, this is your desk.” Kamui nodded as Keiichi helped him settle down. “If you need anything, I’m right here next to you.”

“Thank you.” Kamui sighed and tried to clear his head. He could already hear whispers about him, making him regret agreeing to enroll in school.

“He is SO cute! Too bad he’s blind..”

“Yeah, what a waste..”

“He has such beautiful amethyst eyes! Oh my god!”

“He’s so quiet...how mysterious!”

“Shhh! I think he can hear us..”

Sighing, Kamui rested his head on his hand, pretending to be listening to the lesson.

This is going to be a long day....
