According to my mother, if I want my as yet unborn son to attend the primary school I went to (remember - that's 5 years from now!), I should put his name down now. Uh... I think I'll wait til after he has taken his first breath at least!

why not put his name down? what can it hurt? the earlier the better surely.

Yeah, I guess. Just being overly-cautious, I suppose. Still find it weird, though!

There is a lack of primary schools and primary school places at the moment with the rise in the population and all the housing estates that have gone up over the last 5 years and most of them with out a school having been built.

Things will get worse then all those children hit secondary school age.

It's scary but unfortunatley true. I'd wait untill after he's born thou. Make the dad call the next day kinda thing.

Horrific that this is what we've come to though.
