DO NOT READ THIS IF YOU HAVE NOT READ/FINISHED THE NEW HARRY POTTER BOOK. SERIOUSLY BIG SPOILER IN HERE.
I'm having an email discussion with an old friend of mine and I wanted to see if any of you had theories of your own. First is the question that he posed to me, and second is my response...
Matt: I'm still a little confused about HOW he [Sirius] died too. He
fell behind the veil, but I must have missed that
actual importance of what it was. Was it a doorway to
hell or somthing? Could you enlighten me?
Me: As far as Sirius's death, I've got it narrowed down to two possibilities - or possibly a combination of both. Bellatrix hit Sirius square in the chest with an unspecified spell, but it did say that it was red light (Book 5 pg. 805) which means that it probably wasn't an Avada Kedavra curse since it looks as though that is a green light (Book 4 pg 638 and Book 5 pg 815). But Sirius was stopped mid-laugh and fell backwards through the curtain, so it is possible that the shot killed him. On Page 863 of Book 5, Luna implies strongly that it is a gate to the afterworld and seems as though she is not afraid and she expects to see her mother, so I'm assuming that it's closer to a Gate to Heaven than a Gate to Hell. The question in my mind is whether Sirius was dead before he fell through or whether it was just so nice over there that he wouldn't want to come back (kind of like Eli? in the Bible who went to heaven in a chariot without actually buying it).
