My dream for the National Day of Screaming.

First read _progressive_ for the basic info about today, the National Day of Silence.

We had tables set up around campus that were decorated with all sorts of cool rainbow decorations. And free stuff!

I got a free t-shirt. It says National Day of Silence on the front and then on the back it reads:

"Please understand my reasons for not speaking today. I am ( Read more... )

Reading this makes me want to be your friend - and a closer friend - even more than I am now. And not only for the free Day of Screaming T-shirt.

I think these are all fantastic ideas except for one. I think the bonfire idea might be a little much. I dunno, personally, I don't like the idea of encouraging anybody to burn anything. Although, I do respect and support the idea behind it, just seems needlessly dangerous, and might actually hurt peoples opinions of the day itself.

I'm glad you're becoming so involved in spreading awareness, its very admirable.

I'm behind you 100% on this idea. I know that some places do this...get plain t-shirts in good condition from thrift stores, and screenprint on those.

We should brainstorm and have this happen next year. I am all about breaking silence, without reenacting it first.

You may figure out who I am from the style or tone of my writing...

Anyway, I'm for the Day of Screaming. In my family, there was a situation that's not often addressed in most sexual molestaion discussions: ADULTS being subjected to incest. My sister was an incest VICTIM from when she was 19 right up until her wedding day when she was 23--AND THERE WASN'T A DAMN THING SHE COULD DO ABOUT IT ! Other adults in my immediate family were potential targets, as well. And ANYONE outside of our family could have been a victim, had my father so chosen.

I'm for the Day of Screaming hands down!!

Thanks for offering your support for the day of screaming. Incest is an area of sexual violence that still is fairly hush hush. And thanks for pointing out that it does happen to adult victims and often times it does just remain as this awful family secret.

I wasn't able to figure out who you were from your writing though.

I "run" a lj group here: _survivors_ that might be of interest to you. Anyone can post, but I screen all writing before it is made public to decide whether or not it is appropriate for the group. By appropriate, I just mean that it doesn't contain racism or anything of that sort, and that it doesn't degrade others.
