The prosecution is trying to get the boy's bail raised because of 1) Witness intimidation, 2) Hiring a private detective to follow the girl, 3) going through her trash at home, and a few other misdemeanors that the boys have done AFTER the rape. Daddy's got money and power - I will be surprised if they just don't settle, if he gets off, or if he gets off lightly...

I don't expect the case to settle but I do think they will get off with light jail time. I don't know how lawyers live with themselves, I really don't. The things that those boys did at such a young age is a such an indicator that they will likely do worse things later on in life. I mean come on, they raped a girl with a fuckin pool stick, that's not normal teenage behavior and a strong indicator that something in their minds are not functioning correctly.

Is it even that obvious to say that maybe she wasn't even sexually active, but just attempting to emulate the images of adult females that she sees...seeing as how most porn & lingerie models are either hairless or nearly so...
Any time someone dares to say that we are in a postfeminist era needs to check themselves and read the fucking news. There is some hardcore sexist shit out there, and this whole "put the victim on trial" is only one example of it.

When it comes to rape in the courts, the victim is always made to look like a willing participant. Sadly, this is why more rapes are not reported. Even if a porn star is raped, it is rape.

I was considering calling too or writing a letter. I think something has to be said to this man. I don't know how the hell he can live with himself.

I'm so fucking pissed off that I just want to vomit. How anyone could even attempt to argue that something like this was consensual is beyond me. How they could go as far as to say that she initiated it is enough to cause me to hunt down the fuckers and kill them myself.

More importantly, how could the jury even consider letting something like this go unpunished? And I'm not talking fines and bail, I'm talking jail time. What kind of country are we living in when one crime is viewed as more serious than another because it resulted in the death of a human being? What about the death of the human spirit? This girl has been violated and used in ways that I can't even fathom, and yet the trial is going until at least June or July? It shouldn't even have to be considered, they should pay for this.

I'm too tired to rant any more, but I am so glad you posted this. Otherwise, I would have not known of it, and as infuriating as it is, it is still something that should be known. Please post any new information as you come across it?

I am glad you are pissed too. Because it's important that everyone recongizes what is wrong about this case and what is fucked up about our society. It's really scary and I am positive that this case is just creating a more hostile environment for women and sexism. Why should anyone want to report a rape if they are going to end up being put on trial like that? I know I wouldn't file a report if there was the possibility of my shaving habits used against me. Sick shit.

Vrey sick shit indeed. Society is falling apart. Just when we think that things are starting to improve, shit like this, and the war, and the anti-gay mindset all start coming out of the woodwork.
