Tienna lay on her bed, her thoughts awhirl with a mixture of emotions. It was already past 3am in the morning but she didn't feel tired. She could feel the darkness begin to lighten as dawn etched its way across the sky; the morning fog beginning to lift as the sunlight began to pierce through its thick wall of smog. She had spent the past 3 hours staring at a picture, the picture was of her and her husband, John. Her eyes had already dried from all the crying that she had spent hours earlier, sobbing like a child curled up in the foetal position. This was, like many nights before the way she got herself to sleep, eventually exhausting herself to the point of sleep. Her body unable to cope anymore with the emotional strain. But this night was different, her body did not allow her to fall into slumber as easily as it had for many months before. Now there was just a large emptiness within her that could not be filled. A void to which there was no bottom. Closing her eyes her mind began to wander back to that fateful July night, like an asteroid captured by the greater gravity of the earth and doomed to a declining orbit that would only end in disaster.

...An owl perched on a nearby tree just outside the window, calling out to the night for whatever strange reason's owls call out to the night. In the humid dark I got up from the bed and made my way to the window, opening it as a stiff breeze sweeps through the dank room, cooling and freshening the room. I made my way to the bathroom as John stirred in bed, obviously reacting to the sudden change in temperature. He got up for some reason as he peered out the window, grumbling something incomprehensible about the neighbours kids being inconsiderate with their music at this time of the night. I finish my business in the bathroom as I made my way out, suddenly from the bottom of the stairs I hear a faint smash, followed by the sound of glass falling upon tiled floors below, their delicate composure fracturing into tiny splinters as they rush to meet the cold tiled floor.
Suddenly the night is profoundly quiet, not even the sound of the wind reached my ears, as if the sound of the glass falling upon the tiled surface was in fact, the sound of creation's engines grinding to a halt.
The air is still warm as my clothes began to stick to the back of me from sweat, yet I am unable to move, as if frozen to the spot. I'm shaking with fear as John came over to me, gushing quietly that everything is ok as he embraced my stiff body. He looked up at me with his large brown eyes as he put on his brown jacket, the one which contained his revolver, already loaded. Smiling gently he stroked my face consoling me that everything was ok. I look up at him, there is fear in my eyes as they plead for him to stay. Beyond the blue bedroom door of our bedroom laid a multitude of nightmares conjured up from fantasy and reality. He looked at me and smiled, patting my shoulder as he turned, opening the bedroom door silently, he descended the stairs like a sentinel of the night as silvered moonlight lit his path down the stairs...
The house was silent....

Tienna shivered, repressing the memory from her mind. Friday the first of January was to be their 2nd anniversary of their marriage, a mere two days away. She had spent Christmas with her 'friends' if she could call them that. Her friends were there for support but she could feel their awkwardness whenever the topic of John came up. Their discussions, previously sunny and cheerful trailing off to silence as they looked at her pitifully. She hated their sympathy, the way they talked about her in concerned tones behind her back. She had tried many failed relationships since that inevitable night more than a year ago, but she could not feel anything for her suitors as they spoilt her with gifts. Showering her with praises, comfort and support. She had rejected them all of course, the guilt eventually driving her to tell them that she felt nothing for them. Like a husk of a human being she lived, empty and devoid of any emotion except self-loathing, pity and guilt. Her friends had eventually given up on her as well, an emotionless husk of a human being with nothing exciting happening in her life did not suit their busy social schedule. Soon she was cast aside like 3-day-old Chinese takeaway. Left to fester and rot in her own self-pity and loathing.

Her mind drifted to Aria, she was somebody whom she could relate to, strange that it was a mythical creature conjured up by the imagination of the human mind she thought reflectively. But there was something about Aria, something that she couldn't put her finger on. She felt comfortable around her like no other person, and even though she had only met her on two occasions, she felt that she had known her for a long time. But there was also something else, a strange unfamiliar stirring deep within her heart. A longing to be with her... to embrace her... a feeling that she had not felt since she was with...John. Tienna covered her mouth in shock. Was she in love with this creature? Was it really possible that she could be falling for her? Sure she was breathtakingly beautiful, kind, empathetic... Was this just a craving on Tienna's behalf to feel loved? A desperate ploy to fill the vast empty void deep inside her that seemed to be eating at her everyday? Guilt began to overwhelm her, she loved John, was it really possible to find another love like that? The sound of a priests voice echoed at the back of her mind.

"Til death do us part."

Tienna looked up at the ceiling pleadingly.

"Please, show me a sign on what you think is right John."

With that she fell asleep, her dreams deep and dreamless.
