[Background]
Washu may look like a young twelve year-old with hair that looks like a crab, but she’s actually over 20,000 years old as a human (normally counts her age in Standard Galactic years, which are roughly 2½ Earth years). But she’s not even a human. Washu is actually one of the three Chosin goddesses, the other two being Tsunami and Tokimi. However, she wanted to try and create someone more powerful and sealed her powers and memories into three gems, thus becoming mortal to study the universe. The gems are later given to Ryoko, Washu’s daughter. Ryoko was create from Washu’s egg cells (DNA) and Masu, small amorphous creatures that she also used to create Ryo-Ohki, the cabbit that can also transform into Ryoko’s spaceship.
One other masterpiece Washu created was Soja, a spaceship that was later overtaken by her former assistant/student, Kagato (he also helped in the creation of Ryoko and Ryo-Ohki). Kagato sealed Washu in a mirror dimension of Soja, and for 5,000 she was trapped within a large crystal. She is later released when the group tries to save Ryoko when Kagato abducts her and Mihoshi stumbles upon Washu. It was not intentional. After the battle and destruction of Kagato and Soja, Washu joins the Masaki family and from then on helps keep the family in order and kind of acts as the “Mother” of them all. She also creates her own interdimensional lab in Tenchi’s closet, where she continues to research, both on Tenchi and non-Tenchi related subjects, and create new inventions.
It is revealed later that during her lifetime, Washu had given birth naturally to a child of her own. The child, Mikumo Kuramitsu, is actually Mihoshi Kuramitsu’s great-grandfather. However, because the father came from the prestigious Kuramitsu family, both he and the baby were taken away. Out of grief, Washu chose never to deal with these adult manners again and altered her body to that of a pre-adolescent girl, although Washu is able to return to her adult form if she wishes to. Near the end of the second OVA, Tokimi, one of the other goddesses, wanted Washu to ask about the gems and had Doctor Clay, who also had a grudge about her (getting kicked out of the Science Academy really burned him) and was curious about them, retrieve her. Clay had one of his robots, Zero, go down to the earth to retrieve her, and she cloned herself to look like Ryoko. Ryoko was then sent up to Clay's ship as prisoner, and after Zero!Ryoko tries to kill Tenchi since she was distracting her from her mission (oh Tenchi you player), Washu confronts her.
They later end up chasing her to Clay and in attempt to rescue her sorry, troublesome daughter, Washu confronts Clay herself. And makes a fool out of him several times. There's a bit of a conflict and she's almost taken a few times. But after Zero appears and helps her out, Washu socks Clay in the face, picks up his chair and throws it against the control panel. Clay hits the self-destruct statue button and it's up to Washu to save the day. Or attempt to. Really it was Tenchi who manages to save everything, though Washu had a hand in that by using her goddess powers to help them. Then, after Clay is captured, Washu has Zero and Ryoko combined. And everything goes back to normal. Or. Normal as can be.
Until a bunch of Tenchi's relatives arrive at the start of the third OVA. At the point that she is coming from, Tenchi has even more women troubles as he soon finds himself dealing with a possible fiancée. In episode 16, he falls ill under mysterious circumstances, and after setting him up in bed, Washu then shoos everyone away so that he could rest before returning to her lab.
The only Washu-centric thing that should be noted from the third OVA is near the end. She had also briefly resumed her goddess form when Z had threatened the universe by battling Tenchi. This happened when the three gems are formed together and this is near the end of the OVA. She would then explain her origins and her purpose, as well as everything about the universe. It made no sense really.
[Personality]
Washu is an interesting character to say the least. At times eccentric and childish, and at others very mature to reveal her true nature. Whenever it comes to new research and discoveries, she is quick to seize an opportunity to further study and see what she can do with it. She wants to try and push the limits, to see how much better and more powerful she can make something.
This is also to say that she is very egotistical, especially in terms of her genius. With 20,000 years under her belt, it’s not that surprising that she always claims and firmly believes that she’s the greatest scientist in the universe, especially with all of her accomplishments. If anyone tries to prove otherwise, she will produce ten times the amount of proof. This also means she is very much the competitor, especially if it’s something that’s in her expertise. Also, having credit stolen is not cool. She will be sure to have her logo on all of her creations and will beat up anyone who tries to steal her inventions.
Also, if you get her to start explaining things, you will regret it. Washu will give every technical, hard to understand, detail and will continue to hold lessons until someone tells her to stop and ask for it in simpler terms. And even then it’s hard to understand her. That’s a genius for you. She hates having to use such simple terms, but she’ll try.
However, she also has her serious, motherly side. When she scolds, she scolds, and does not hold back. Her yelling at the other girls will send them flying and following her orders. While she doesn’t always want to, if she has to take command, she will, and will be the one with the cool, level head to keep the situations under control. Though it's not her fault if the others fly off on their own all willy nilly. But other than being forceful, she can also be very gentle, especially to little kids. Due to her past, she does have a soft spot for them and is a natural mother. She can also have bouts of nostalgia, but this usually only happens when she’s in her lab and bored.
Otherwise, she’s rather carefree, and will use her child form to her advantage. Hey, it gets her free things! And who could deny such a cute face? Least, that’s what Washu’s thinks and…most of the time it does work.
Oh, and don’t break her things. She will get upset and will try to kill you. Really. And if she’s interested in something she will test and research it. Even if it’s a person.
[Specialties/Abilities]
Washu has the ability to phase shift through solid objects, convert matter directly to energy with no entropic loss (in the form of an energy saber), and she can duplicate herself. One of her favorite tricks, when captured, is to reappear somewhere else, and point to the "her" that was captured, which is now merely a stuffed doll in her likeness. She also has the ability to create a telepathic link to Ryoko and create force fields.
She is also able to create pretty much anything and due to her personality is able to take command when necessary. Also, she can solve problems very quickly and realize if something is off. She also has this “laptop” (more like a holographic screen and keyboard) that appears whenever she needs it and is also able to pull out various other things due to dimensional space.
Washu does have three forms: child, adult, and goddess. And she can change between her 12 yr-old form and her 30 yr-old form easily. Technically she is also able to resume her goddess form, but she only uses that for extreme circumstances.
She can also take care of herself rather well, being able to cook and using her technology to diagnose illnesses and the like. She just prefers if others treat her instead.
[Affection] Anything friendly goes, though if you make fun of her she'll either smack you or joke back in kind. If you're a cute guy, she might flirt a bit.
[Fighting] You can try and fight her, but she's a slippery one, that Washu. She can't use any of her goddess powers since the gems aren't here, but she can still change into her adult form and has access to her other powers as listed above. However, killing her wouldn't be nice >: If she doesn't punch you into a wall first.
[Other Facts]
She can have her lab :D Only she wouldn’t be able to access any of the other five planets that it’s technically connected to. It would be isolated in the Somarium dimension.
Though she can technically change into her goddess form, I don’t think she’ll be able to in Somarium. Or she might be able to tap into her powers, but they would be reduced a lot.
Her Dreamberry is probably going to be her laptop and she’ll probably create a sort of headset of a kind so that it could double as the phone part.
Yes, her hair looks like a crab. And that’s also her logo.
....There is a lot of technobabble and Tenchi-verse things that no matter how many times I watch the series it really goes way over my head. So if I get lazy and fudge it, sorry :\
I did say that of you mess with her lab she will kill you, right?
