true; but pharmacuticals are completely different than recreational drugs. drugs that were created to save lives are now bought/stolen and sold and taking lives in the hands of people that they were never meant to reach. and with natives, the gods that they believed they are speaking to were nothing more than hallcinations brought on by the psychosis of drug use and not actual gods. in their eyes yes they were speaking with gods becuase they had no idea that they things they were injesting/smoking had the properties that they did but instead a catalyst which bridged the mortal and immortal world, but in reality they were doing nothing but tripping out on shrooms. the drugs that they used, while natural, deteriorated their minds and it grew to a point were this one precious plant was the gateway to immortality giving it a godly status in their society. this goldy status drove more people to use it, it eat away at their minds and create dependence on it, create a psycological addiction to it. and i know of many people today who diefy
