(no subject)
Man, I'm just getting into this terrible habit of posting like...once a month. Anyhow, just an update (again) on how my life's been going. For the most part, it's been pretty good.
The holidays went well, but I missed my aunt really bad. My Auntie Debby is the only aunt I have that lives far away (in Texas), and EVERY single year she comes up on Christmas to see us. That is about the ONE time I get to see her in the year. And this year, my Uncle Rick guilted her into staying down with him for the holidays. Seriously? What the hell. She's given up a LOT to be with him. She never gets to see her family, except one time a year, and they live RIGHT by HIS family. I just thought it was really selfish, and Christmas just wasn't the same without her... I hope she had a nice Christmas, though.
For the most part, Christmas presents consisted of gift cards (even though I made a pretty good list which they requested) and other little odds and ends. But the topper was definitely the big present my parents got me. Instead of doing the 'Santa' thing, we just did a gift exchange between my folks and my sister and me. She got a GIANT, really nice art table. And I got a GPS. Gone is the tradition of, when I go somewhere for the first or second time, getting lost. I get terribly lost every time I go somewhere for the first time. But no more! I'm really excited to use it. It'll be especially useful for conventions and stuff, because it has points of interest (POI) which have like...shopping, gas, and food places all organized under sub-menus. It's REALLY cool, so I'll be able to find things pretty quickly.
One of the good things about getting gift cards, is that I got a crap ton of Jo-Anns giftcards, so I'll DEFINITELY have enough money to make my Kirin costume! I'm REALLY excited to go fabric shopping for it, and already bought boyshorts for the bottom part (even though I'm going to carve it up for the pattern, and make the shorts and tube-top (the underwear for the costume) out of the same fabric. Which is pretty exciting. I cannot WAIT to start on this costume! I just hope I have enough time to finish it for Ohayocon... I need to make sure to place the order for a new (fuller) wig to spike, and extensions for the skirt, tail, and fur fringe so it gets to me in time to work with it. I do have a problem though...
Amphigory doesn't have the extensions I wanted in stock, and they don't know when they'll have them back in stock @_@ I don't know anywhere else to go to buy the extensions I need. And then there's the wig problem... The white wig I used for my Micaiah costume is NOT full enough for the Kirin headdress. So I need to get a wig that's full enough to spike the top parts up, but not something cheap and crappy. Well, we'll see what happens.
I must say, I'm really nervous about my job. The season's almost over, and I signed on as seasonal help. We aren't even taking applications right now, which leads me to believe that the seasonal people are going to be let go soonish...so I need to start looking for a backup job. @_@; Again, I have to wait and see on that as well.
All in all, things have gone very well so far, and I have a lot to look forward to in 2009. <3
