New AND Improved??

So here I was making jellied toast (untoasted), when I read a refrigerator magnet we recently got from Outback Steakhouse. It says 'Try our NEW & IMPROVED online ordering for curbside take-away!' It's just then that I realized the Chicken or the Egg conundrum with the statement 'NEW & IMPROVED'. If it's new, it didn't exist before, so how can it ( Read more... )

Unless it's a new version of an existing product that represents an improvement (or the maker wishes to convey the idea that it represents an improvement) over the old version. In that context, it makes perfect sense for it to be both new and improved.
