I listen to music. I don't listen to artists. What I mean with that is I don't listen to songs for the source or the genre, but for what they do to me

If someone were to start taking really reprehensible actions- overt racism, etc. I might start to avoid their work, but... Tom Cruise? So what. Yeah, he's a yutz off the screen, but he's a good actor on the screen. Britney? I just don't like her stuff. That's why I avoid it. Nothing to do with the follies in her (very public) personal life.
I choose to support people and organizations who are either making the world a better place or at the very least benign. ;-)
And while I'll grant you that society's not gonna crumble because Tom Cruise makes an overgeneralized rant on psychiatry, Eminem makes some gay slurs to shock, or Britney Spears doesn't take the time to properly raise her kids... not gonna support em.
Even if they make something I like? Yup. Because the fact is I don't like their work by association of how they behave.
Should also add, as I basically told ya on-phone, but just so other folks reading this get my point...
It doesn't bother you what they do in their personal lives, but it bothers you when I choose not to view their work? That doesn't ring hypocritical at all? Not like I force or even ask you not to watch or buy something.
You don't force me to watch or buy something, but your opinion still adds a shift in judgement because we live in the same apartment. With music not so much, but with movies and stuff, I won't buy a movie I know you won't watch. Just like a lot of the time you don't watch certain movies because I tell you I don't want to watch them. And a lot of times I won't buy a game I like if I think I'm the only one who'll play it.
If I lived with Britney, I'd tell her how to properly raise her kids and I'd get annoyed if she neglected them. But since I'm not there watching it every day, it's none o' my business.

What brought this on, I wonder? ;-)
