QUESTION TO ANYONE WHO KNOWS THE ANSWER

My computer has been getting progressively darker and darker over the past few days.

Today I was able to mess with the gamma and stuff to make it readable, but it's poor quality and I worry it won't last long.

My question: WHAT needs replacing?
monitor? graphic card? something else?

Any help is appreciated!

Sounds like the monitor, but to be sure it's not a graphics card problem (which I'm nearly positive it's not), you should try to plug another monitor into your computer and see if you get the same results.

I'm guessing since it's a crt monitor and it's old that it's probably the problem.
