Ha! Hahahahahahahaha! Eric Foner... I used a shit load of his research on a huge thesis. His area of study is women in the textile and shoe mills of New England at the turn of the 20th century and post civil war reconstruction. He's reeeaaally not the most credible source in such a matter.

Much more reasonable, in my humble opinion as an American historian:
